The Xbox Series X version of Microsoft Flight Simulator works best if you look at it as the closest approximation that anyone could get to a sophisticated flight simulator without a beefy PC. The cracks start to show when you check the ground for details, and the frame rate could be better, but it remains a stunning game that showcases the system's power. The controls remain technical enough to scare away the easily intimidated, but the number of tutorials and assists ensure that you can get into the air with ease - even if getting back on the ground can be a challenge. It does well in its promise to let players see the world from above, and if you have the patience to deal with a byzantine menu system and don't want to fire off any missiles, you'll enjoy the countless hours you can spend with Microsoft Flight Simulator.
I could keep going on and on about this for ages… but I need to stop somewhere. With a strong starting point in terms of aircraft to use and the fact that you can fly to/from anywhere in the world plus regular updates and more content, I really can't recommend this enough to fans of flight! Visually stunning and a challenge if you want it to be, or a reasonably calm flight of fancy if you want that, Microsoft Flight Simulator Xbox Series X is a true accomplishment on this next-gen console and a game that you will continue coming back to, even years later that can be played as a enjoyable joy flight or a challenge as you attempt to land a passenger plane at night and with bad weather. But enough from me… I need to get back in the cockpit and enjoy the sights of the world (if we can't get out there in reality at the moment… this is arguably the next best thing!).

This is a simulation, and very much not a game, but it's also the most graphically impressive console experience ever seen and one of the best adverts for Xbox Game Pass so far.

Microsoft Flight Simulator deserves to be played - but it shouldn't be considered essential. It's a unique experience, one that won't capture everyone in the same way, but you really do owe it to yourself to find your house, your partner's, your parent's, your favourite holiday destination, and just fly over. The world looks very different from thousands of feet in the air, and for now, Microsoft Flight Simulator is the only way I can get that irresistible point of view.

Microsoft Flight Simulator is a true masterpiece on Xbox, capable of setting new standards and, notwithstanding some smears, of tracing a path for the new generation. The extremely high level of simulation, the excellent technical component and the possibility of faithfully exploring practically every point on Earth make this new chapter a must-have for all flight enthusiasts, but thanks to the many aids it can also be appreciated by those who have never tried a similar title. Whether you are a fan or not of sims, this is a game you should at least try. Even with some tiny tech hiccups here and there, this is an experience capable of making you want to buy a bigger TV.

One of the most demanding PC games makes a slick transition to Xbox Series X and Xbox Series S. The full Microsoft Flight Simulator experience comes to the living room, serving as a true graphical showcase for its consoles.
The flying process is enjoyable and the flight lessons will give you everything you may need to navigate and fly to places you would not be able to under different circumstances.

When all is said and done, Microsoft Flight Simulator in its current state reminds me a lot of Sea of Thieves shortly after launch. The game has a lot of promise and a lot of potential, but it is marred by a number of issues that keep it from really shining. Once the issues have been worked out in six months or a year from now, I fully expect Microsoft Flight Simulator to be a must-have title. Right now, unless you are a hardcore flight sim fanatic, I would pass on buying the premium version and just stick to playing the basic version that's included with GamePass.
