Metamorphosis has a great premise and a very intelligent story. I’m not gonna lie, playing as a bug in a first-person perspective was impressive at first. Too bad this one of the most unpolished games I have ever played in my life.

Metamorphosis is a love letter to Franz Kafka, that, unfortunately, is in pretty rough shape on the Nintendo Switch. The stuttering, texture pop-in, and hard crashes overshadow an experience that could otherwise be described as generally enjoyable. Witty dialogue, challenging platforming, and the incredible sights to see from this pint-sized perspective would make it worth the issues in performance if it weren't also for the bland adventuring and jittery controls.

When all is said and done, Metamorphosis is a relatively solid game. It's not without its faults but it does what it was trying to do; to tell a Kafkaesque story. It's an interesting game, certainly, but doesn't have much staying power.

Metamorphosis is a brief and pretty adventure about controlling a bug, but it’s neither as memorable nor as striking as its inspiration. It’s not bad for a spin, but you’d really be served better by reading Kafka straight from the bottle.

If you’re after a short platforming adventure with a story that will make you think just as much as the odd puzzle, you’d be wise to give Metamorphosis a try.

While the story-telling, environments, and narration might intrigue, Metamorphosis VR has too many technical issues to allow one to truly enjoy the experience.

I don't know if I'll see more games inspired by classic existential literature. Is a gaming adaptation of Camus' The Stranger on the way? Who knows? But for what it is, Metamorphosis is a pretty fun way to experience an all-time classic story.

Metamorphosis VR has so much potential, but movement is awkward and a fair few bugs held me back from appreciating it fully.

Metamorphosis captures players' attention with its unique gameplay and excellent sense of scale. However, the story loses momentum, and the game ends too quickly.

One thing indie titles have excelled at is providing gamers with very new, and sometimes very weird, experiences… perhaps perfectly epitomized with something like Metamorphosis...

Maybe the weirdest thing about Metamorphosis is that it takes an old, respected story, and turns it into a dark mirror of the video game adaptation of Pixar's A Bug’s Life. Somehow, despite its issues, that works.

Metamorphosis isn’t an easy game to complete. Not quite because it’s challenging, but because it feels heavy and repetitive. Despite these problems, the game is still a great experience, really giving the player the feeling they’re reading Kafka’s book.

Metamorphosis is a creative, albeit short, video game interpretation of Franz Kafka’s novella. The game absolutely nails the creepy, absurd vibe of the story all about turning into a cockroach and trying to work as a bug. Metamorphosis is a fun, narrative experience, especially for those who are fans of classic literature.

A lot of Kafka’s spirit shines through in this game with the illogical mixed with the depressingly truthful and real. It’s such a shame then that the Xbox One version is beset with so many technical hiccups that threaten to spoil the narrative. Like so much of Kafka’s work, Metamorphosis feels like it has been left unfinished and in need of a few more weeks of polishing.

But it feels more like a quite short interactive experience, rather than a videogame. Metamorphosis lacks variety and cohesive gameplay, focusing too much on the story and the atmosphere. As such even the current price may seem a bit high for this unusual game. It is a surreal experiment which despite its intriguing source material, will never become a classic due to its dull inner workings.

Metamorphosis spins a bittersweet, intriguing web of mystery and humour that, albeit brief, is often an utter joy to crawl through, if you're willing to brace a disappointing final stretch, inconsistent graphics, and myriad technical issues.

Metamorphosis is a visually appealing game set in a Kafkaesque world of surrealism and dreamlike qualities. Unfortunately, there are bugs (not the insects in the game) that break immersion and make gameplay frustrating at times.

Metamorphosis is a good puzzle/adventure game with some platformer elements, but it fails to take the experience quite as far as it could. If you are into the surreal, consider it a solid option for a little creative time-wasting on your Nintendo Switch.

Metamorphosis manages to whip up an impressive tribute to Franz Kafka in its quick story thanks to its offbeat sense of humor, style and eye-catching world.
