The Alto Collection has some issues on the Switch, but these lively games can keep you engaged considerably longer than expected.

The Alto Collection is a lovely set of Zen games with simple controls and beautiful music and graphics to enjoy as you adventure down the mountains again and again. Grinding issues aside this is easily a game to return to if you just want that quick gaming fix. Plus this is one of the few games I can think of that gives a bit of love to Lamas so its all good.

Ultimately, though, this all feels like extra baggage that isn’t necessary to the overall experience; there’s enough here to keep you entertained for a good while just in terms of pure gameplay, and although it’s not the kind of game that incentivises repeat playthroughs, there’s always that niggling feeling at the back of the mind to have ‘just one more go’. There are a couple of minor issues, such as the fact that some obstacles get obscured and really sneak up on you, and a distinct lack of extras that we’d like to have seen in a collection like this. But otherwise, the Alto games are well worth checking out if you’re after a breezy, relaxing experience.

Conversions from the mobile space are always a bit of a tricky thing to review on a full-fledged gaming console like the Switch, too often lacking the depth of play to justify not just getting and enjoying them on your phone...

Its mobile roots definitely show but The Alto Collection offers some enjoyable albeit simplistic gameplay with eye-popping visuals.

While I probably won’t immediately think to jump on these on my PS4 with so many other options available to me – I still feel mobile is the best way to play – I have an appetite to unlock all the trophies and upgrades within the game. For that alone, The Alto Collection is very special set of games that are still a lot of fun to play years after they first released.

This mobile-to-console port is a resounding success as Snowman has been able to ensure The Alto Collection is successful in capturing the player and transporting them to varying worlds of simplistic beauty, as well as consistently presenting challenges that will keep the player guessing what's coming next. Through several obstacles, perilous chasms, and cleverly designed maps, each experience that this has to offer is guaranteed to be unique, fun, and a welcome addition to anyone's library.

The Alto Collection console release is more or less a straight port of the mobile titles made to work on a big screen with a controller. That's not a bad thing at all, as the mobile releases were deservingly award-winning games, but it's a missed opportunity to make some slight UI and gameplay optimizations that could have really polished the experience on console. Still, The Alto Collection is deserving of your attention, a peaceful mountain adventure that's designed to be played in short spurts, but almost impossible to put down once you get going. "Just one more run," never looked so beautiful or felt so zen.

The Alto Collection is a great way for newcomers to visit the dual worlds of Alto's Adventure and Alto's Odyssey, and a welcome return for those who have been here before, especially at a time when we need something to forget our worries and escape more than ever.

The Alto Collection is wonderful in its simplicity. It goes to show that games don’t need to be crammed with special features, over-the-top special effects or Hollywood-worthy storylines to be engaging.

The Alto Collection is a lovely little timesink that survives the jump to the big screen in robust fashion. Its clear and appealing visuals, and their ever-changing time-cycle, are simply another bright little plus point in a tightly concocted endless runner that's works as well on a TV as it does on something more portable.

There’s not a whole more to go on about Alto Collection really. If you can, be sure to pick it up during the free week at the Epic Games Store and give these breezy games a go. You can’t go wrong.

The Alto Collection whilst somewhat repetitive is a joy to play. It successfully captures an ethereal beauty, which makes for a relaxing and enjoyable experience. It combines being an addictive score chaser with accessibility, creating perhaps the best endless runner out there.
