9.5 / 10.0 - Borderlands 2
Sep 18, 2012

Borderlands 2 is easily the most replay value you’re going to get out of a game that isn’t an MMO.

Call of Duty: Ghosts isn't a terrible game. It just happens to be a small, yearly released cog in a franchise that continues to resist innovation at every turn. Coming back to this title after playing Modern Warfare 2 in 2009, I should have been overwhelmed by a multitude of exciting new changes. Instead I was hit with the realization that I hadn't missed a thing.

Chivalry: Deadliest Warrior is a well-balanced game with enjoyable multiplayer that is a great alternative from your run of the mill first-person shooter. The last Chivalry was easily my most favorite multiplayer diversion last year, and Deadliest Warrior will surprise a lot of people with its visceral and beautifully gory combat.

6.5 / 10.0 - Contrast
Nov 14, 2013

Contrast is, again, many things: in more than one way, it's vibrant and dark. It's beautiful and surreal. It's heartwarming and compelling. But at the same time, it often feels like it could use just a little more polish, a little more expansion.

If you're looking for a challenging game of cat and mouse with exotic supercars and a gorgeous back drop, Need for Speed: Rivals is what you're looking for in spades. Think fast, drive faster. Going slow is for chumps and old people.

Ryse: Son of Rome is a gorgeous game that gives us a great sense of what the Xbox One can accomplish in terms of graphics. Sadly, the shallow combat doesn't shoot it passed your average 3rd person action game.

8 / 10.0 - Dead Rising 3
Nov 21, 2013

The game's scope, over-the-top weapons and surprisingly enjoyable story all trump the tedious mission slogs and sluggish controls.  The idea of charging headfirst into a slow marching horde of 300 zombies with a flaming sword is still ridiculous and satisfying.

We play games to have fun, and that is what Super Mario 3D World is best at delivering.

What could and should be a worldwide spectacle is confined to a house party, that much of the time may include only you and three AI competitors. If you have the hardware and bodies to fill this party then buy this game immediately. If not, you might want to wait for a price cut.

5 / 10.0 - Gomo

If given the choice between Gomo and any other game, choose the latter…even if it hasn't been created yet.

9.5 / 10.0 - Teslagrad
Dec 12, 2013

Like one of the real Nikola Tesla's fantastic ideas, [Teslagrad] shines bright and strong, bringing its own unique spirit into an overly crowded industry. And making it through to the game's conclusion is well worth the wait.

While obviously there are still four more episodes to go and we're just playing the start of Clementine's journey, Episode 1 of The Walking Dead: Season Two gets the new season off to a thrilling start that proves the wait was well worth it.

Figuring things out and uncovering the truth in Fabletown surely isn't easy, but with Episode 2 continuing to prove The Wolf Among Us as another excellent addition to Telltale's roster, playing through the latest chapter of the noir crime saga is not nearly difficult at all.

8.5 / 10.0 - Strider
Feb 18, 2014

Strider is easily one of the best games that I've played this year. This is a title that reminds me of why I got into video games in the first place: for the pure joy of PLAYING.  Strider is a fantastic game that I will keep playing and replaying for some time.

Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze is a well-made platformer that adds more than enough level variety, graphical upgrades, new characters and new mechanics to keep the long-used formula from getting stale. While it doesn't reinvent the wheel, it certainly molds and polishes that wheel to near perfection.

8 / 10.0 - Thief
Feb 25, 2014

This is a great restart for the franchise and should hopefully bring in a new set of fans (like myself). While some of the platforming can be a bit cumbersome and the A.I can be downright moronic at times, this game is a good starting point for future titles that will no doubt refine the mechanics and add to the game's lore. Fans and non fans of the stealth genre should find a lot to enjoy in Thief.

Standing next to titles like Titanfall or Call of Duty in a genre that's even more crowded, it may not be the next "big" shooter to take online multiplayer by storm -– and it probably never will. But, with more than enough fun unique twists than several other shooters by comparison, it's assured that this game easily stands apart from the crowd — whether it's the brain-munching kind or not.

Clementine and her group may face uncertainty and (most certainly) death around every corner in The Walking Dead, but in its newest episode Telltale Games ensures that players will face a tense, thrilling ride for the rest of Season Two that will have us only looking forward, with no chance to look back.

9 / 10.0 - Titanfall
Mar 11, 2014

Titanfall doesn't reinvent the first-person shooter but comes close to nearly perfecting it. All the elements that we've seen fail before in other games somehow fit each other so well in this one. Titanfall accomplishes what it sets out to do: being the killer app the Xbox One needed.

9.5 / 10.0 - Dark Souls II
Mar 11, 2014

Overall Dark Souls II is one of the best games I have ever played. I have never before laughed at my own stupidity, cried out with frustration and jumped because of random beastly creatures hidden in the dark of the night.
