Niche Gamer's Reviews

As for other players, if you take issue with characters with big bosoms, this game revels in bouncy breasts. If you can get behind the game's presentation and are looking for a solid musou with a likable cast, this game might be able to scratch that itch.

3 / 10.0 - Slain
Apr 8, 2016

Wolf Brew Games have acknowledged the glaring flaws and bugs reported in the forums, and they've promised to release an update fixing them. However, my review and judgment cannot be based on promises, and until a fix is released, my score will stand.

Overall, I was very pleased with Stranger of Sword City and go back to it when long periods of time (and an insatiable desire to work towards max’ing my party) are available to me. If you have a craving for the type of gridder where you change classes five times, grind for hours, and obsess over gear, then you just found your next purchase.

If you want to play a Baldur’s Gate expansion, I would suggest getting the original un-enhanced editions and installing both games along with the BGtutu mod. After that, you can download the fan-made Dark Side of the Sword Coast, which is infinitely better than what Beamdog has created here with Siege of Dragonspear.

It’s technically impressive, and it’s a well executed Total Annihilation /Supreme Commander clone, but it could have been much more. Its core gameplay is well-done and it’s technically impressive, but that’s about all there is to say about it. It’s a good game, but fails to be anything spectacular.

If you’re looking at this game and expecting the complexity of The Legend of Zelda, you will be disappointed. If you’re interested in mindless fun that makes you feel like a god while playing through it, then you’ll probably feel right at home. It’s Dynasty Warriors with Zelda characters, and if you don’t like Dynasty Warriors, you’re not going to like this title either.

7 / 10.0 - Nights of Azure
May 3, 2016

All in all, Nights of Azure is a middling game with some neat design choices that just didn't do enough to stand out. Combat and gameplay had glimpses of a great game, especially in the arena, but the rest of it didn't hold up. Characters were written well enough and side stories were enjoyable, but the main storyline felt flat and stereotypical. It just wasn't enough to make it a great game, but it was far from genuinely bad.

If you already own the PC version, the PS4 version doesn’t really add a lot save the enhanced visuals, unless you simply want to own the limited edition tin, or if you simply want to own every version that exists of the game. I own all three versions of the game anyway, so I don’t see why you shouldn’t complete the collection yourself.

9 / 10.0 - Doom
May 16, 2016

There is a wealth of content here for the singleplayer gamer such as myself, and while the multiplayer is fun, I can't help but feel it will be dead within the year.

As it stands, unless you’re a die-hard fan of the Dead or Alive Xtreme series, I suggest skipping this entirely unless it happens to be on sale. Until then, play something like Senran Kagura: Estival Versus instead.

Homefront isn't really a terrible game, and if you're a diehard fan of Red Dawn or Far Cry, I'm sure you'll find something here for you.

Creative Assembly has shown that they have great respect for the universe that Games Workshop has created and I can't wait to see what they do with the IP next. Who knows, maybe next time we'll get a Total War game set in the Grim Darkness of the 41st Millennium, where there is only war.

I think I can confidently say that Odin Sphere Leifthrasir is about as masterful as a remaster can get. The standard graphical upgrades and such are all here in spades, but there are tons of additions and fixes beyond that leaving us with a great game that's certainly better than the original. And beyond the game just being a shining example of what a remaster should look like, it's a damn good game on top of it all, and certainly one of the best games of its kind in a long while.

Atelier Sophie is a good game, just not a game for me personally, but I got to admit, I do love alchemy now. Now if you’ll excuse me, I’m gonna go and build some bombs so let’s wrap this up. It genuinely upsets me, not as a critique, but as a fellow gamer that this game turned out the way it did.

8.5 / 10.0 - Zero Time Dilemma
Jun 25, 2016

If you’re a fan of the Zero Escape games, I don’t need to convince you to buy it, since you probably were already going to do so anyway. If you’re a newcomer and want to get into the Zero Escape series, play the first two games before you even consider playing Zero Time Dilemma, as it offers a much more rewarding experience if you have.

In an ocean of indie titles that eventually blend in with one another, VA-11 HALL-A stands out from the crowd and promises you a comfortable and unbelievably enjoyable experience. Grab a beer, listen to the soundtrack, and enjoy.

If you’re new to the series or a returning veteran ready to greet the little pink puff ball again after a long wait, you’re in store for a fantastic ride. While there may have been problems along the way, this has to be one of my favorite games to come out of this year. I hope you pick it up and give it a try.

Once again Koei has created a fantastic strategy game that plays surprisingly well on a console, while not as immediately comfortable to play with a control as Nobunaga’s Ambition, which I own on both PC and PS4, but perfer the PS4 controls more.

Star Ocean: Integrity and Faithlessness is an RPG that is built specifically for the PlayStation 2 crowd who still pine away for the mid-2000s and the days when Japanese developers hadn’t yet played Skyrim. Those who want another JRPG from that era that is unashamed to be Asian (complete with Fiore’s bouncing breasts, which might make up for Miki’s “diapers”) and delivers on the promise of taking Star Ocean into the current generation shouldn’t be disappointed.
