Critical Hit's Reviews

Apr 24, 2019

Curious design decisions and a confusing, cumbersome control scheme help destroy the immersion, but there's a certain charm to Immortal Legacy's ambition that makes it easier to overlook its problems. It's an occasionally fun VR first-person shooter adventure that's worth a look, especially for its budget price.

5.5 / 10.0 - Xenon Racer
Apr 4, 2019

Xenon Racer harks back to the simpler days of arcade racing. It includes all one might need and expect from a game of its genre. Buts it starts to choke thanks to a compromised handling of the vehicle. The races are unappealing, despite you being in a drop-dead set of wheels.

Space Hulk's latest iteration is potential squandered, regularly broken and guilty of a crime worse than the Horus Heresy…It's boring.

5.5 / 10.0 - WWE 2K18
Oct 23, 2017

2K's fifth WWE game has all the style and none of the substance of WWE games of old. All show and no actual in-ring talent, everything new in WWE 2K18 is quickly superseded by an uneven graphics engine and a career mode that's certified G for Grody.

5.5 / 10.0 - Sonic Forces
Nov 13, 2017

It may look lovely and run well, but Sonic Forces' uninspired level design and lack of flow prevent it being much fun to play.

With a bit more polish, and less of a lingering sense of obligation to hold on to the licence, MXGP could grow to become a premier racing sim, but right now it's muddy at best.

Mario’s foray in to the sporting world has had its ups and down; soaring highs and disheartening lows. This? This is just middling, a mediocre package unlikely win the multifaceted Mario new fans.

5.5 / 10.0 - 1-2-Switch
Mar 14, 2017

1,2 Switch is an interesting, occasionally fun primer to the Switch's controllers. Had it been packed in, 1,2 Switch would have garnered its fair share of converts - but with its lack of depth and its frankly ludicrous price, it’s just not worth investing in.

5.5 / 10.0 - WWE 2K17
Nov 10, 2016

WWE 2K17 isn’t exactly a step forward for the franchise. At best, it’s stuck in the past and completely lacking in any of the features that made 2K’s beast incarnate a strong contender from previous encounters. And that’s the bottom line.

Less zip and more of a lashing, Chibi-Robo: Zip Lash has all the basics it needs to be an enjoyable platformer but trips over itself with some baffling design choices and an un-inspired candy center.

A tennis game that lacks motion controls, signature Mario silliness or even the effort for unique cut scenes, the only thing Mario Tennis Ultra Smash has going for it is that it's functional and vaguely entertaining for short periods of time.

Homefront: The Revolution wears its troubled design and its unattainable ambition like a scar. There's a decent game hidden in its core, but it would take too much work to turn the Revolution in to something worthy of attention.

5.5 / 10.0 - Son of Nor
Apr 17, 2015

A game with lots of great ideas that just aren't implemented as well as you'd hope. Son of Nor is lacking in some areas, but still manages to invoke a few hours of fun nonetheless – if you can look past its rough edges.

In the end the game isn't bad but unfortunately I just found it a little boring and that to me is one of the worst things a game could be.

5.5 / 10.0 - Assetto Corsa
Aug 30, 2016

Assetto Corsa may try to parade around on console as a video game, but it's not fooling anyone. It's a simulator made for those that want the most realistic driving experience possible. Even then, it's fairly rough around the edges and is only in any way recommended to diehard racing fans who are willing to drop money on a decent wheel and pedal setup.

5.5 / 10.0 - Sparkle Unleashed
Jun 3, 2015

There's no competition in the genre on the Xbox One right now, so if you absolutely must shoot marbles then you probably can't go wrong with Sparkle Unleashed. However it feels, looks and plays like a mobile port - which is okay, because that's exactly what it is.

There's nothing like a good murder mystery - and Murdered: Soul Suspect is nothing like a good murder mystery. It's a decent enough tale, punctuated by half-baked sleuthing, underused supernatural powers and forced stealth.

5.5 / 10.0 - The Order: 1886
Feb 20, 2015

Great visuals alone do not a great game make - and there's unfortunately very little in The Order: 1886 to elevate it beyond being a pretty, but shallow and insipid shooter. It commits the one sin no interactive entertainment should: it's painfully boring.

Farming Simulator has a long way to go if it is to be enjoyed by the typical gamer. Lack of proper tutorials, glaring AI problems, and a long grind make it nearly unbearable – at least to those who have zero interest in farming. For those who appreciate agriculture however, Farming Simulator 15 does exactly what it says on the box, and they will likely enjoy the product.

5.9 / 10.0 - Steep
Dec 13, 2016

Steep is pretty to look at it, but it’s also pretty awful to play as breath-taking visuals alone aren't enough to help this extreme sports game from going downhill.
