Media Molecule have set the bar for Vita games; Tearaway is a clever, compelling and charming adventure that plays to the unique strengths of the console, leaving other games looking washed out, outdated and thoughtless. If Tearaway was the only game you played on the Vita, it would be well worth it.
Luke 2:10 Behold, I bring you tidings of great joy
Overall, Wasteland 2 has stayed true to its premise, and deserves a place alongside Divinity: Original Sin as one of the best cRPGs of its era. Immersive and intriguing, the game balances risk and reward; pushing the player to the limits of their inventory and capabilities time and time again; like only the best survival games can.
Polished to near perfection, BioWare is back at its best
Critical Hit
In the end I can't help forgiving Chapters its sins due to my sixteen years of investment in its world.
Respawn Entertainment has created a brilliant new twist on the FPS experience. Titanfall is a wonderful hybrid of the aggressive play style from an on-foot shooter with the tactical yet satisfying combat that comes from wielding the power of a Titan. We can only hope that new Titans follow the promised map DLC, to help keep the experience fresh in the months to come.
Beyond Earth is a bold step into the future for the Civilization series, and one that is well-judged and deftly executed. While hardcore genre fans might not get much of a kick out of its – in places – stripped-down take on 4X, what it provides is something quite unlike anything the series has provided before – one that fully embraces its potential for creating unique stories with every game, and provides the tools through which they might be more fleshed out than ever before.
Fun = True
From the moment you set foot in Halo 5: Guardians, it's obvious that the game has been given the attention it deserves. Everything about it, from the way you move across the terrain, to the way you beat down a helpless grunt, feels finely tuned. There's a tactile sensation of weight behind every step, and the crunch of your actions is as visually pleasing as it is satisfying.
An explosive, if somewhat stretched, send off for gaming's most charismatic rogue.
Beautiful to look at, thrilling to play and infused with the gleefully anarchic spirit of the original, *Doom* offers the best and most refreshing shooter campaign in years. This alone would justify the price tag, but abundant secrets and potentially endless content via SnapMap add further longevity. *Doom* is back.
Total War's mechanics and the Warhammer setting complement one another beautifully, and Creative Assembly has mostly nailed the execution. Total War: Warhammer is the best representation of the Warhammer universe there has ever been in a video game, and the best entry in the Total War series for some time.
An incremental rather than radical improvement, but no less an achievement for that, XCOM 2 irons out flaws you didn't even realise existed in Enemy Unknown. The consequence is one of the best strategy games in years.
An imperfect perfection, the series draws to an end with a bang, and a whimper.
DiRT Rally delivers on its promise of full simulation and then some, with an unrelenting, unforgiving rally experience and all the glory of eventual victory to go with it. The trinkets around rallying could do with some maintenance, but this is a game that can only get better - and it's already leaving many competitors in its smoke.
