It's a hard task to sum up a game like this. Should it be judged as a title in 1996, 2002 or 2015? Does it stand up in today's market on its own merits? Am I viewing it with rose-tinted glasses and a bucket full of nostalgia or does it still deserve the high praise it has always garnered? I first played Resident Evil on the PSX with a group of friends back in 1996 and have fond memories of us gathered around the TV trying to figure out the puzzles, what to do and where to go next. In 2015 I feel you must play the game blind to experience that same magic. Using internet guides and youtube walkthroughs will take away everything that makes Resident Evil the classic survival horror adventure. In a nutshell the game is as good as it ever was and better than it has ever been. A masterclass in pacing, whether the design truly is masterful or just a product of the age from which it came will probably never be truly understood.

Overall, Sherlock Holmes: Crimes and Punishment made an excellent addition to the Holmes Adventure games. The new modern approach really benefits the game as a whole, and the new engine brings out the best in the Holmes games that the others just couldn't convey. I would highly recommend this game to anybody who enjoys the Sherlock Holmes universe as well as to anyone who enjoys detective/mystery games as well.

Captain Toad: Treasure Tracker is a game I never thought I'd see on the 3DS, and I could never have imagined it being ported so smoothly. With no compromise to the gameplay experience, this is Captain Toad. On the 3DS. If you want wonderful puzzles, colourful and diverse environments, replayability, and challenge. If you're ready for an adventure I would call timeless, you are ready for Captain Toad.

9 / 10.0 - Bayonetta 2
Nov 4, 2014

Bayonetta 2 was a pleasant surprise for me as a Wii U gamer going through a bit of a drought. It sucked me into a realm of beautifully crafted battles, enormous personality, and just plain sexy character design. Bayonetta 2 was charming, and just a little bit naughty. It is an absolute must have for the Wii U, and I would dare say it is one of the top Wii U titles available for the platform.

9 / 10.0 - Dark Souls III
Apr 18, 2016

Dark Souls 3 is an amalgamation of all the Souls games with a little bit of Bloodborne added in for good measure. Featuring various game mechanics, enemies, weapons, and even a location or two from other entries in the series along with some new stuff along the way, From Software has definitely developed an excellent, and worthy, Dark Souls sequel.

I liked Divinity Original Sin. It was one of my all time favorite classic-styled RPGs. The Enhanced Edition is simply more of what I loved from the original version of the game, and definitely holds up to my original love for the game. I can wholeheartedly recommend any and all console gamers to pick up this wonderful title if you haven't played it already.

With over 20 hours spent in game and the prospect of taking on New Game+ in the future, I think Salt and Sanctuary is one of the greater indie titles available on the PS4. An amazing achievement for a development team of just 2 people.

9 / 10.0 - Tacoma
Aug 1, 2017

Fullbright proves that they have mastered interactive storytelling by delivering a uniquely absorbing experience in Tacoma. Allowing players to explore as much or as little as they want perfectly complements the amazing cast of characters and beautiful environments. While it may be short, Tacoma is one of the most unique games I've played this year.

9 / 10.0 - XCOM 2
Dec 4, 2016

This game is a true diamond in the genre. A rough diamond, admittedly, but it shines through all the same. I've been waiting for this sequel for the longest time and, as expected, Firaxis delivered. XCOM 2 is genre-defining and exceeds expectations - it's a game you don't want to miss.

Overall, Deus Ex Mankind Divided is a worthy successor. The gameplay is near-perfect, the story has wonderful twists and turns throughout and despite some occasional graphical issues still manages to look great. If you're a fan of the Deus Ex universe, then I absolutely recommend you pick this up.

9 / 10.0 - Until Dawn
Aug 30, 2015

If you like adventure and horror games or cheesy slasher flicks you'll be right at home with Until Dawn. It unashamedly uses every trope in the book but is so well developed that it will become the new standard that future adventure games are compared to. Overall I enjoyed it enough to play through again and see the alternate outcomes as well as find the missing collectibles.

As a 3DS title and as a Fire Emblem title, Fates does not disappoint. It is everything you could expect from a good Fire Emblem game and a solid addition to the 3DS library. It's the first good 3DS game I've played in a long time, and it's one I'm still playing today. It's minor flaws are easily outshone by its major accomplishments, and localization issues slowly lose all meaning as the player is lost in the mountainous content and beauty of this game.
