A must play for this generation, Spider-Man really feels like a lot of love and attention from Insomniac Games went into its production. The gameplay is always fun and will take players fond of Spider-Man II, Ultimate Spider-Man, and the other widely beloved titles on a nostalgic trip while giving them a completely new and perfectly paced story to enjoy. The developer's interpretation of the hero whose story we've seen redone so much in recent memory is a breath of fresh air for such a well-regarded character in geek culture.
'Fire Emblem Echoes' combines a wonderful blend of modern and legacy gameplay in a package that successfully introduces the world to a title that never made its way to the West. With a well-written plot and brilliant characterization, Fire Emblem Echoes: Shadows of Valentia is a remake of the highest caliber, with welcome additions that still manage to stay in tune with the original.
[Overall score is based on a score of the entire game - base game included] Torna: The Golden Country is a fine conclusion to an already great game - the amount of depth it adds makes the game feel like an entirely new adventure in the Alrest we've come to know and love. Adding new battle features, an excellent new score from Yasunori Mitsuda, and developing characters to meet the necessary endpoints for the base game to proceed, Xenoblade 2 is a masterpiece in building a credible, enjoyable world. It's an absolute recommendation for any Switch owner. 9/5/10
Dishonored 2 successfully builds upon an already enjoyable game. The game reached the standard of what a good sequel should try and be. With a story that's satisfying and a world that is open and enchanting, my only major objection is that the ending falls short of being entirely satisfying.
Tales of Berseria is the best Tales game that I have played since the series roped me in with Tales of Symphonia. The story exceeded my expectations utilizing the darker tone to emphasize themes of family and betrayal. The combat is easy enough to understand and worthwhile to master, so players who are not familiar with the series’ combat can jump in and learn it easily. At the same time, Tales fans who are more interested in the advanced aspects of combat have a lot to dig into. Tales of Berseria is a game that I recommend for anyone looking for an enjoyable JRPG with memorable characters and a worthwhile story.
Everspace is some of the most fun I have had with a game in the last few years, and perhaps even the most fun space-shooter I have ever played.
Uncharted 4: A Thief's End is a fitting way to end a decade long story beloved by fans across the world.
Tokyo Mirage Sessions ♯FE is hours and hours of fun in itself. Combined with some great world-building dialogue and character development, and bolstered by a great soundtrack, this is one of the better games for the Wii U, hands down. Despite its niche audience, the appeal to fans of both series should be readily apparent and will more than suffice for fans who seek a good dungeon exploring RPG.
Zombie Night Terror, a STEAM title developed by NoClip, is a unique combination of humor, strategy, and the mindless walking dead. To say they are mindless is not an understatement, as these zombies are really something stupid. The player controls the zombie outbreak in an effort to wipe humanity off the face of the planet. Managing a zombie apocalypse to terminate humanity is a challenging escapade, but spreading the pandemic is half the fun.
'Destiny 2' has largely improved the formula that made its predecessor so addictive, yet frustrating at the same time. The gameplay, specifically the shooting, feels even more satisfying than it did in the original game. With a tangible story and a vastly improved end-game, players who plan to stick with this game for the long term are bound to enjoy the ride.
The new direction to a more expansive role playing experience is a welcome change. I wish that the modern day story had been crafted to the same standard that the story of Bayak and Aya had been written. If you prefer to ignore the modern day aspect of the story, however, you might find that it keeps these portions short and sweet. I am beginning to really enjoy the new combat system, even though I have issue with its controls. Thanks to new skills and a range of weapons to experiment with, combat is always evolving close to the same rate as the player is developing their mastery. Really though, the most standout thing about Assassin’s Creed Origins is Egypt itself and the people who inhabit it.
Overall Ni No Kuni 2: The Revenant Kingdom is a great RPG. It looks beautiful, combat is satisfying and, as a bonus, the higgledies are cute. Surely it’s one the best RPGs of 2018 so far. It can be too easy in places, which might turn off hardcore fans, yet its world and atmosphere are good enough to make up for it.
'No Man's Sky' pairs our love of exploration with a universe of massive scale. While the story takes some sorting out before you feel like you really have a grasp on it, it is deep and thought-provoking. There are many systems and features within the game, and the vast majority of them feel polished and correctly balanced. 'No Man's Sky' is a game that is worth playing.
'Dishonored: Death of the Outsider' brings to close a chapter of one of the best first-person stealth series of recent year. It utilizes the same deep and experiment-enticing gameplay that fans have come to expect from Arkane Studios. Fans of the series will find themselves engaged by the story and the consequences of Billie's actions throughout the campaign.
Watch Dogs 2 adds a lot to a series that had a poor start. San Fransisco is an incredibly beautiful and fleshed out location for a game that has a much brighter tone that the original. Yet a lot of the good is weighed down by issues returning from past Ubisoft titles (even though those issues had been completely eradicated in the past). While the game feel fun, it is hard to shake the feeling that Ubisoft has taken a step backward thanks to these issues.
Vermintide's gameplay formula is nothing new, and doesn't bring much to the table. What makes this game worth playing however is the well-crafted world and the level design. Each level has a purpose in the story, and the way that purpose is fulfilled is carefully thought out.
The combination of everyone's favorite childhood toy and the movie franchise that set the standard in movie production to this day create an enjoyable experience for gamers of all ages. Bringing back familiar aspects of previous LEGO games, and adding new gameplay like dogfights and blaster battles helps 'LEGO Star Wars: The Force Awakens' break franchise fatigue. Traveller's Tales has delivered their best game to date.

With a story that delicately balances sadness and beauty, yet never tries to be anything other than a callback to classic games, I am Setsuna lands among the stars of the JRPG genre.
If you are looking for a new RPG that feels like many popular titles and presents itself in a very anime way, this game is for you. Solid playtime shows around 30 hours or so for the first play through, however new game + and three story lines make the replay value very worth it.
