92% - Doom

With a revived, classic feel, an easy-to-use community-focused map editor (SnapMap), and even the ability to unlock classic DOOM maps to play through, this is how a reboot is done.

It's been a good while since I've ever been this excited for a video game, let alone a first person shooter.

Mankind Divided takes a step forward into learning of conspiracies and the organization behind it all. The story is given a better pacing that allows for more sense to be made over the deeper and more complex areas of its narrative.

MLB The Show 16 is a fantastic sports game. The gameplay is as fun and immersive as ever. I shouted at the umpire over close calls and pumped my fist at each home run, just like I do when I'm at games or watch them on TV. The new features take away from the realism, but I love that they're optional.

All in all, Kathy Rain is a top notch game for Nancy Drew fans, mystery lovers or anyone who just loves sassy women on motorcycles.

Honestly, I am Setsuna may be the best RPG I play this year (Trails of Cold Steel is excluded because it released last year). With its simple title, emotional story (try to get through it without feeling something), perfect soundtrack, enjoyable battle system, and pretty aesthetics, I am Setsuna is an admittedly short title with a few flaws that, on the whole, succeeds.

Transformers Devastation is a great game if you like loot, tweaking stats, high velocity chase sequences, and brawling battles. The game is chock full of features and extras that show the source material was revered by the developers. Games like this deserve the extra time you will sink into it to complete the trophies/achievements. Building up your Autobot your way is empowering and a great compliment to what The Transformers are all about.

Afterbirth is a weighty expansion, filled to the brim with content, to a game which was already no slouch when it came to things to do. What may be regarded as 'the base game' is challenging, enjoyable and intriguing and worthy of the purchase. What sets Afterbirth apart from those foundations is the mechanical minutiae, providing hundreds upon hundreds of hours of exploration, competition, and manic fun.

Ratchet & Clank offers fans and newbies alike a chance to re-explore the origins of two of gaming's most beloved characters. With a challenge mode filled with a significant amount of additional content, Ratchet & Clank is loaded with value, especially at its cheap price tag. Excellent voice acting, gameplay, boss fights, weaponry, and tongue-in-cheek dialogue leads Ratchet & Clank to find its way near the top of my favorite games of 2016 so far.

Stardew Valley definitely gives a lot for Harvest Moon fans but also for newcomers to the genre. Whether it's farming, mining, fishing, or even just talking to your neighbors, Pelican Town is a fantastic video game world to spend tons of hours crafting your own adventure.

90% - Expand
Oct 20, 2015

I think you'll know whether this is a game you'd be inclined to play. All I can give you is my heartiest recommendation. Expand is quite obviously designed with great care and attention to detail from the maze design, to the soundtrack, and to the pacing that had me on tenterhooks. I loved every minute of it.

90% - Hue
Sep 13, 2016

Hue is a deceptively simple game, near guaranteed to draw you in to its world. The game's levels develop in complexity as you progress and by the latter stages of the game, they can be fiendishly complex. At the same time, it's also a meditative experience with its beautifully drawn world and soundtrack. Hue is a game well worth your time.

90% - Armello
Sep 30, 2015

Over all, though, I say Armello is the perfect game to play at the end of the day with a group of friends. Each playthrough won't take more than three hours at most, and it provides lots of fun and replay value for any who are interested in finding something to play while talking with a group of your best buds. It's definitely worth a pick up, just make sure you're buying the fourpack and getting other people involved. I can see this game getting pretty lonely and meaningless without anyone there to play it with you.

Until Dawn is a (Super)massive surprise hit for the PlayStation 4. Armed with stellar acting, true suspense, and a narrative that keeps you guessing, Supermassive Games smashes its way into the genre as the current reigning champion. Step aside, Quantic Dream. There's a new developer in town.

Going into this game, I did not expect to like it as much as I do. There is a fast travel system, but I rarely used it. I preferred flying around and collecting gems on my way as I went to different locations. Sometimes the free range of gravity could be disorienting. This was mostly in battles or challenges where there was more of a rush to completing a task. This made me just want one button that I could orient myself to the world, without losing place. This game is a lot of fun if you get the chance to play it.

Samorost 3 shares some of the same ideas with its two previous games of the same name but is also completely its own game. The game is around 5 – 6 hours long, and some say that the asking price of £14.99 is a bit steep. But what you get in exchange is a unique and charming pocket sized adventure with exceptional visuals and music, a game from an award winning independent studio whose previous games have also won a variety of awards and a game that can be played by anyone of any age.

Dark Souls III is absolutely worth the price tag. You can easily drop hundreds of hours into it and still be enjoying the experience. It's worth noting that the game is significantly more difficult than Dark Souls II and slightly more difficult than Dark Souls.

There’s a lot to love about Ballhalla, even without mentioning its art style that’s gleaming with colour, or its foreboding electronic soundtrack which is evocative of Frozen Synapse’s. What could so easily have ended up as a perfunctory effort bolstered only by inventive marketing, as I feared was the case, has actually turned out to be an inventive and joyous ride.
