80% - Rive
Oct 6, 2016

Any and all gripes related to RIVE are minor, and none should obscure the fact that it’s a solid game filled to the brim with high-impact action. The game’s high points are thrilling enough to melt its flaws into a glowing hunk of molten metal. It’s a great little reference to the arcade shooters of yesteryear, recalling what was great about those games while firmly establishing an identity of its own. RIVE is not a game to miss.

Star Ocean: Integrity and Faithlessness offers an impressive experience that accomplishes what it sets out to do. While the bulk of the game is relatively short (though with how the actual plot runs its course, that seems to make logical sense), the gameplay more than makes up for it.

At its heart, The Technomancer is an inspiring attempt at what open world action RPGs can be. It doesn’t always succeed at what it tries to do, but its ambition often makes up for its missteps.

With solid combat, enjoyable exploration, and in depth characterization, Mind Zero breathes fresh air into a potentially stale formula.

Resident Evil 6 for PS4 and Xbox One offer players the same overall experience from the original title. Most gamers familiar with the series already know whether they’ll be playing the game again. But for those on the fence or those who have never played it before, the cheap price tag, the addition of all DLC, and working/enjoyable multiplayer mode makes the game a potentially worthwhile buy.

Legend of Kay Anniversary is a game you want to pay close attention to if you want to acquire the bonuses throughout the levels. It will most likely be your second or third play through before you start finishing the extra quests. This is because you will likely trigger the end of a chapter before finishing them. Is the game worth a second go-around, or even a first play? If you like cartoony platforming games that remind you of the PS1 and N64 era, then this could be your jam.

80% - Stasis
Sep 28, 2015

There aren't too many complaints with Stasis. It's a short game with some pace issues and it may only see play once. However, the game is filled with so much ambiance it's worth playing through it. The grimy narrative, alongside the excellent visuals and sound design, will have players writhe forward through the mysteries of the Groomlake to discover John's fate aboard the dead ship.

80% - NHL 16
Sep 29, 2015

NHL 16 is leaps and bounds improved from last year's title. While all of the returning game modes are warmly welcomed, it can come off as a cheap marketing ploy to take them away in the first place, only to reinstate them as a selling point. The feel of the game replicates a more authentic simulation in both look and gameplay.

80% - N++
Aug 25, 2016

N++ is an unabashedly punishing game with tight controls, great level design, and enough content to last for ages. The momentum-based platforming provides a wide array of challenges sure to satisfy fans of the genre. If you're on the fence, just remember that you get to play as a ninja.

If you're interested in an emotionally charged puzzler for less than $20 (before tax), then NERO (Nothing Ever Remains Obscure) could be a solid buy.

Sunless Sea far surpassed any expectations I had laid out prior. The rich lore and exposition of its game play and narrative intertwine with its massive map to create a powerful web of content. To add to that, the method in which the game is structured allows the player to experience hours of content; and this isn’t your random claim of ‘at least thirty hours of gameplay!’

Children of Arkham does a great job at building and expanding the characters, while also developing not only the plot against Gotham but also the Wayne family storyline. There’s a major reveal near the episode’s conclusion that is going to have serious repercussions for Bruce Wayne, and it’ll be interesting to see how both the public and Bruce react to the revelation.

On the whole, I would recommend Seasons After Fall to anyone looking for another pretty indie platformer. Seasons After Fall certainly holds its own (minus the glitches) against other favorites within the genre, but doesn’t do enough to truly surpass its counterparts. Still, it can be quite calming and engaging for a short period of time and is certainly worth the playthrough for anyone looking for a new platformer.

Headlander doesn’t rise above the genre in every respect, but it honors it and enhances it through clever gameplay and inventive new mechanics. It succeeds because it adds a wonderful new spin to the action-adventure side-scroller while maintaining a distinct aesthetic and personality. It’s quirky and fun with a big dose of silly humor. Fans of the genre shouldn’t miss it.

It's with great pleasure that I say that Age of Decadence is a game I love. I couldn't have been happier to have been given the opportunity to review it. It's a fun, engaging game with a seemingly endless amount of depth, leaving me truly surprised that a team of only six people were able to create it. You can tell that they spent a long time trying to make this game as great and hardcore as it is now. I can't wait to see what they decide to do next.

Full Mojo Rampage is an entertaining and successful top-down stick shooter. I found minimal to no mechanical issues, and the game always ran smoothly for me. Controls were tight, and the ability to level up after a death (as well as the options to customize your character stats and weapons) were great.

This game went a lot quicker than I would have expected and did feel easier than the Souls and Bloodborne games. But that is not necessarily a bad thing. For people who are maybe less interested or more wary of the Souls series, this game might be an option to try out. For those who love those series already this game is a fun time spent that could be less grueling than running through the Souls game for another New Game+.
