Even with its short length, ABZU stands out as an amazing video game that is not so much a game in the traditional sense, but more of an experience that will affect us all in different ways. Like Journey before it, this game proves that the medium we all know and love is just as much of an art form as writing a book, painting a picture, or filming a movie. In fact, it may even provide an even more personal connection to someone than these other art forms, because it can be interacted with to formulate a unique experience for everyone that plays it.
What Remains of Edith Finch is a perfect example of how video games can weave highly emotional narratives into their gameplay to provide very deep experiences for the player. It may be short and very eclectic, but it will definitely be on many outlet's game of the year lists, so just play it already to find out why.
Gears of War 4 packs a great story, interesting new characters, and very sound gameplay. Its visuals are stunning to say the least, especially if you have a 4K TV that supports HDR and the Xbox One S. It's definitely one of 2016's best, and should be played even if you've never played a Gears of War game before.
Forza Horizon 3 not only packs in quality racing gameplay and a massive world ripe for exploring, but if you have capable 4K gear, it's easily the best looking game in 2016, if not during this console generation, thanks to its HDR support.
Horizon Zero Dawn is definitely one of those IPs that we hope denotes a sequel. There is very little in this game that isn't done well: the melee combat and some facial expressions. The gameplay is amazing, the graphics are beautiful, and the story is a good one to follow.
"It’s a heck of an expansion and one that provides a stellar sendoff for a master Witcher."
If Christian Whitehead just keeps making new Sonic levels, and SEGA lets him head more games, then the future of Sonic will be bright. Hats off to you, Mr. Whitehead.
Uncharted 4 delivers a memorable experience through excellent storytelling, character development, and refreshing gameplay. If you're apprehensive about the series ending, I still strongly encourage you to do so.
Telltale's first Batman episode is a gem and offers up a great narrative for the characters of Bruce Wayne and the Batman, but a few technical miscues such as poor framerate performance and stiff character animations keep it from being a perfect experience.
World of Warcraft: Legion brought back a lot of the glory and splendor that I experienced when I first started the game. A plethora of features like World Quests and Artifact Weapons bring another layer of content to the endgame of Legion. Halting certain progression with research times is something I may have nerfed down a bit but other than that, Legion is near perfect to me as far as expansions go.
If you’re looking for something to play and AAA games are not cutting it for you, then definitely buy Brut@l.
This is one of the few titles I have played this year that I plan on revisiting over the years for a great time.
Lately most of the games that have been released in the last few months have not been challenging. Rise & Shine is breath of fresh air in terms of challenge and the story is not half bad either.
Forza 7 is a gem of a game to look at and play. The MP lobbies require a bit of wait time, and there are micro transactions, but the visual fidelity and gameplay make both of these downsides relatively forgettable.
Gris, in my opinion, is a Journey-level game in terms of how it completely sucks you into its artistic experience and doesn't let your senses go until its credit roll.
How XV truly excels, however, is with a combination of melodic storytelling, rhythmic combat, and harmonious character development.
"The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt is at its best when focusing on individual characters and the stories that they have to tell, and that's exactly what Hearts of Stone provides."
F1 2016 Is the best F1 game in years possibly the best ever created. It's an essential purchase for fans of F1 or racing fans in general. It has the perfect difficulty curve for newcomers to get to grips with and is deep enough to keep the die-hard pro's happy. A few annoyances dampen what is otherwise an outstanding game but none of them detract from the intense thrill of F1racing.
Farpoint for the PSVR is probably what most people envisioned when this era of virtual video games was first announced. Simply put, this is the game that justifies a PSVR purchase. A system seller if you will.
Destiny 2: Forsaken provides the most complete feeling Destiny experience to-date, which is due to its more structured campaign, the new weapons and skills, the new Gambit multiplayer mode, and of course all of the new endgame content you can play in its two new locations. If you've been away from your Guardian since last fall, now is the time to return.
