GearNuke's Reviews

Games of Thrones Episode 2 is a rather slow burn type of Episode which takes it sweet time in establishing the new characters, as well continuing the story of the returning characters. Unfortunately it doesn't really stand as anything special in term of the story, making it a weak follow-up from Episode 1.

4 / 10.0 - Gungrave VR
Dec 17, 2018

GunGrave VR is tough to recommend to anyone outside of GunGrave purists, and even then there isn’t enough content here to justify its asking price, and what's there is largely a chore to play through.

Nickelodeon Kart Racers is a game trying hard to stay stuck in the past. It is merely using the Nickelodeon name as a promotional tool, offering a shallow karting game underneath it. The lack of licensed characters, terrible tracks, and average gameplay doesn't help it stand out among the countless other Kart Racing clones.

This feels more like a tech demo that was expanded into a miniature game. The gameplay gets incredibly repetitive, so it hard to enjoy it. The only worthwhile thing to say for it is the visuals look great.

4 / 10 - Drive Girls
Sep 18, 2017

The repetitive nature of the hack and slash combat and the lack of inspiration for the story and visuals makes it hard to recommend Drive Girls for anything other than amusement.

The first DLC for Dead Rising 4 is a huge disappointment and offers little to no value for its asking price. Even if you are a diehard fan of the series, I would advice to skip out this DLC completely.

4 / 10 - Uno
Aug 20, 2016

The game takes inspiration from it's predecessor yet fails to do anything unique with it, so it you're itching for a match of Uno, your money is better spent towards buying a physical deck of the game.

The Caligula Effect: Overdose is an okay RPG that will last you quite a while if you like the themes and concept presented. It certainly isn't the Persona-like game we were expecting so you may want to skip this if you were under the same impression as me.

5 / 10.0 - JUMP FORCE
Feb 16, 2019

Jump Force was a game I was really looking forward to playing this year. Being a huge fan of the Xenoverse games like you may have guessed already judging by the number of times I mentioned them, Jump Force takes that formula and tries to fit the square peg in a round hole.

More of an experiment that feels lacking next to the previous substantial expansion for The Surge. This new DLC doesn't feel like it is worth its asking price, especially when a sequel is already underway.

As a mobile game, the gameplay design here just doesn't work as well for consoles. There is a lot to grind just to progress and unlock more levels or the different variety of sharks which is ultimately its biggest weakness.

Gundam Breaker is an incredibly fun series, unfortunately, the first major English release for it was a rather disappointing entry that suffers from a terrible story mode, lack of engaging combat with an awful performance. It still has some redeeming quality with the customization offered for Gunpla, but this is not enough to overlook its major faults.

5 / 10 - 2Dark

2Dark is a frustrating mess of a game that shows plenty of promise as a concept, but fails to deliver on every single one of them.

Super Dungeon Bros tries to be more than a typical dungeon crawler with its vibrant and colorful exterior, yet falls flat. Mostly because the game's few positives fail to stand out next to the mountain of negatives that plague it.

As a game developed for kids first, the presentation is simple with a repetitive gameplay loop which doesn't offer any challenge. Kids will appreciate it for the first few levels, but even they can experience the boredom once the initial excitement is over.

5.5 / 10.0 - Fallout 76
Nov 21, 2018

If I had to describe Fallout 76, I will say it is a flawed idea that never works well. It is simply broken and feels boring but offers a redeeming factor with the open world exploration in some well-crafted environments. The buggy nature of the game is its biggest hurdle and some quality of life changes will go a long way in molding it into something enjoyable in the future.

5.5 / 10.0 - Extinction
Apr 11, 2018

Extinction feels like a game that could have been a fun side project for a studio developed on a modest budget, instead of being sold at full price as a retail game that struggles to offer enticing content for its asking price.

Fear Effect Sedna is a major disappointment especially if you are a fan of the series. The game certainly is ambitious but that doesn't help it solve many of its underlying problems.

Hidden Dragon Legend starts off as a promising side-scrolling hack and slash and quickly devolves into a repetitive combat and inconsistent platforming mess. The game also suffers from a lack of polish especially for the story cutscenes where the visuals are widely inconsistent with stiff animations.

Try this game out for the beautiful art style and your occasional dose of maniacal bullet hell gameplay, but prepare to rage quit more often than you would like.
