Unscored - Deceit
Oct 18, 2017

If you love Trouble in Terrorist Town, you’ll enjoy yourself playing Deceit, but, it has a low population, and you miss out on all of the other activities you can get into with something like Gary’s Mod. Gary’s Mod has nearly 52,000 players in the last 30 days, against only 107 on Deceit. But, like I said, there’s tons more to do in Gary’s Mod. If you’re looking for exclusively Trouble in Terrorist Town, those numbers drop significantly for Gary’s Mod, but I’d suspect nowhere near as low as Deceit.

Abermore is just simply a great concept at this time. It is not a great game. It does have potential, but it really was clearly not ready for release.

This was a difficult review to write. I enjoyed creeping through the Felton mansion and the stalker mechanic is seldom seen and quite refreshing. The mansion itself is atmospheric and interesting, even if it cribs heavily from the first Resident Evil. The game feels like the work of an auteur with a singular vision, to its benefit and detriment. Unfortunately during my playthrough, I experienced multiple bugs which broke THREE of the handful of scripted stalker encounters and led to my losing an auto-save point. Re-Mothered: Tormented Fathers lacks polish and should have been play-tested more extensively. Frankly, I am frustrated with games being brought over to the Switch in this state. It’s not fair on unknowing consumers who might not know that the game they are buying is not release-ready, and Nintendo currently does not give refunds to unsatisfied customers. The game has achieved a decent Metacritic on other platforms so one can only assume that the Switch version was not given the care and attention it needed. Maybe at some point in the future, it will be more playable but as it stands I have no choice but to award Re-Mothered: Tormented Fathers our not-at-all coveted broken medal.

0 / 10.0 - Crimson Keep
Mar 26, 2019

I personally think despite crimson keep being released already there is still a lot of work to be done on it to ensure it’s not a broken game, they need to fix their game so you don’t crash, they need to give you better chances of having food, and health to ensure you can survive that little bit longer otherwise you’re going to get bored real fast of doing the same exact stuff, I guess if you’re lucky enough to get past a certain point it won’t be so bad.. that is until you get crashed to the main screen over and over again. Co-op would really help this game, two people playing would make it a hell of a lot more fun than one person playing, dying a few hundred times and then moving on to the next game, Merge games have stated they have no plans for a co-op within crimson keep but if they get desperate enough for players I’m sure they’ll soon drag their feet back and create a mode for this. The game would be amazing and has so much more potential if it wasn’t a broken game, so I will not be giving any form of award for this.

I enjoyed my time playing Rescue Party: Live! though I definitely recommend playing co-op. It has strong similarities to Overcooked and that same sim genre but is different enough to stand on its own. I found it is friendly for all ages in gameplay and look & sound. And with plenty of variety in maps and challenges within which kept playing from feeling stale. From playing with friends to mastering levels and unlocking trophies, there is plenty to keep you busy here.

The graphics were lovely, the audio was lovely, the game was absolute trash, I feel like I’ve had more brain-stimulating games from a free phone app, I probably won’t ever load this back up on my Switch because I can’t bear to play it any longer. In terms of buying Solo: Islands Of The Heart as it is, I’d probably not even bother doing that, get yourself some paint with the money and paint your walls, let it dry, watch it whilst it dries I promise you it’s much more fun. I’m going to give Solo: Islands Of The Heart a platitrash (trash) award, meaning it’s probably one of the worst games I’ve reviewed yet.

I won’t lie, I feel really let down by Riot: Civil Unrest. I felt like a kid at Christmas who was excitedly looking forward to opening a present under the tree to realise it was a potato and not what I had wished for. On the face value of it, I was intrigued by the concept and what I was going to discover, however, the way the game has been designed and drawn lets it down majorly. With polished graphics, better sound and a tutorial that helps you understand what the hell you are doing, this game could have had so much potential. For me, it is currently being deleted from my console. Harsh I know, but it is for the best.

1 / 10.0 - Spike Volleyball
Feb 7, 2019

I’ve heard the term ‘floater’ used in Volleyball before and well I could quite easily see that term fitting adequately here (although I’m sure in the sport it has a different meaning). There is very little here that deserves praising and the whole package feels like a rush job. For a full price title I’ve come to expect a certain level of quality and they seem to have left it in the locker room with Spike Volleyball. I’m sure it will have its fans, and after enough beer with a few friends it may be something to put on for a laugh, but other than that, my recommendation is ‘STAY AWAY’

Tennis On Court has just one thing going for it, it’s realistic physics. It seems as though all the effort was put into this one feature, and everything else was left in the dust. With some updates and fixes, and a deep sale, Tennis On Court could be worthy of your time and money. As of now, it isn’t.

Overall, VELONE is a frustrating game for many reasons. Even if you look past it being a poorer version of a well-received game like Opus Magnum, there are some serious problems with it

2 / 10.0 - DeadCore
Sep 4, 2017

I'm sure the  intelligent folk who read my reviews won't need me to point out what my conclusion of this will be, but for writing purposes we will take a stroll down that path. To say Deadcore is a failure is incorrect. For the price and the simplicity of it, maybe some will get a kick out of sitting down with some friends and challenging each other to get the furthest or quickest record, but when placed against other titles, it severely lacks characters or personality. Sure, it's a video game at its purest form, however, it doesn't propose any advancements or improvements to the titles it's inspired by. Avoid, or wait for a deep sale. It's technically competent and brings a few good ideas to the table but its frustrating aspects make me more likely to recommend it to my enemies rather than my friends.

In the end, I found Unstoppable to be quite dull & boring. The game fails to make anything it says on the Steam even appear. The “realistic” combat is nothing more than simply hitting the enemy repeatedly until they drop dead. Reloading Pistols is too slow, while shotguns reload really fast. I found the Bosses nothing but a joke, especially the final one. They can hit the player with a wide hitbox while you do nothing to them. The game could add more ways to attack to help with this issue by giving players weapons they can throw or grab/push enemies. Unstoppables’ story is non-existent, and the key plot points are told at the beginning when selecting a chapter. The idea the main character is looking for a cure is false, and there is no information about why everything is going down and why this outbreak had to happen.

The game is fun to some extent, but I wouldn’t overly rush to buy it. The gameplay became boring quite quickly, and I’d only been playing for roughly an hour and felt fed up with it. My frustration was mainly due to the in-game timers on the blood vials and how slow the fishing was. I disliked that, to begin with, the player has a large sum of gold. I spent it all on the best rods and reels. It felt like I didn’t need to work towards anything apart from the collection. The fishing controls take some getting used to and are awkward. It took me nearly half an hour to figure out because the text for the fishing tutorial was blank. I had a lot of times when My Little Blood Cult would freeze when trying to summon a demon, which got annoying since it required me to reboot the game.

Unfortunately, Anthology Of Fear was a miss for me. It didn’t offer anything I hadn’t seen before, nor did it present itself in a way that’d catch my attention. With a lack of enemies, threats, or even jumpscares and creepy events, most of my time within the game felt empty and bland. I felt like I walked from place to place and saw the same corridors and areas. Most unfortunately, I couldn’t even finish the game. On the second videotape, I had to do a mini-game to progress, but the controls stopped working every time I got to it. I tried restarting the level and the game and played the game up until the same point to no avail.

While I absolutely enjoy Cities: Skylines and have seen the features that really make Cities: Skylines II a more enhanced version in terms of game mechanics, it is severely let down in my opinion with its graphics. I found myself getting frustrated that I could not have a smooth experience if I had the graphics even on medium. Against the previous game, graphically Cities: Skylines wins. I started to question why this second iteration was needed. Could they have not just upgraded the game mechanics in the first one and carried on building on what they had? I guess maybe it was not possible and perhaps the changes were too much for any existing cities to handle. It’s a shame as my experience has not been a massively positive one and despite having some better features and ways of doing things, it feels like a backward step in user experience at the moment. Let’s hope for some serious optimization to happen! For now, I would hold off from buying and maybe play it through the Xbox game pass library if you want to have a dabble.

The real question is; is MW3 worth the price? I would say no. Although multiplayer is insanely fun, there seems to be more in store with the addition of the new maps. The campaign and zombie mode let down the game as a whole. The campaign in Call of Duty has always been one of my favourite story-driven games, especially with the heights of MW2 and MW3. But yet, this campaign has left me wanting more. Especially in the longevity of the mode itself. And while I commend Call of Duty for trying something different in regard to zombies. It unfortunately does not hit the mark. And it is with this in mind, I am awarding Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 the bronze award.

I’m sorely disappointed with Stray Souls. The game looked promising and advertised some cool features that weren’t what they said they were or didn’t matter. The plot advances quickly, with a scene abruptly starting/ending and leaves the player with little explanation. At one point, I had an objective to find something, but when I entered an area, a cutscene started, and I was suddenly somewhere new. Many things killed the immersion for me at times. The jump scares happened too often, and the game would repeat them several times. Sometimes, the camera would focus on the jump scare for too long, quickly making them dull. The golden gun the player has felt incredibly out of place and almost looks like a mod.
