FingerGuns's Reviews

The Crash Bandicoot N. Sane Trilogy is a fantastic re-introduction to PlayStation's forgotten mascot.

Ghost Blade has all the makings of a great shooter, it just lacks that special something in few major areas that makes it fail to live up to its potential.

8 / 10 - SpeedRunners
Jul 10, 2017

SpeedRunners has finally made its way to consoles and we're very happy about it. It's not perfect, and is very much one experience, but it's going to keep you busy as hell if you stick at it and is a cracker of a local multiplayer. Don't miss it.

Serial Cleaner is a tense, challenging stealth game that'll equally frustrate as much as it entertains.

Iron Crypticle can be fun, I enjoyed it in short burst sessions and there's definitely that "just one more go" factor and for high score junkies this will appeal to you. It's not a terrible game, there are just better examples out there.

It's only the first episode and in my experience TellTale series always get better and better as the series moves on, though I'm strained to remember a series which started as rocky at this one. I'm gonna jump into Episode 2 and hope that the story and series will get somewhere that brings back the spirit of the first season, because right now it's nowhere to be found.

9 / 10 - SUPERHOT (VR)
Jul 18, 2017

There is nothing quite like it.

Super Cloudbuilt is a game that I was expecting to be fun, but I absolutely didn't expect to enjoy it as much as I have. It's tough as balls and frenetic, fun and full of life. The narrative running throughout is unexpectedly challenging and rewarding and visually, is about as wonderful as cel-shading has ever been.

Unbox: Newbie's Adventure combines the new hotness with old school classics to come up with something unique. Sure, the unpredictable movement takes some getting used to, the combat is a little lacklustre in single player and the vehicle control is awkward but it does far more right than it does wrong.

6 / 10 - Tiny Trax
Jul 24, 2017

Tiny Trax is a brilliant brilliant concept and FuturLab need to be commended on crafting such a wonderful Virtual World with tracks that are literally out of this world. The VR itself is comfortable, and you never seem to get tired eyes and definitely no motion sickness. Technically on that front it's top notch. It's just a shame that the gameplay itself falls short of its potential.

7 / 10 - Mr. Shifty
Jul 30, 2017

Mr Shifty is an intense and gratifying experience that has its tongue pressed firmly into its cheek. It's not quite on the same level as some of its contemporaries but it makes the most of what makes it unique and introduces new ideas from the ground floor to the penthouse. The occasional section of trial-and-error and the mountain-esque difficulty spike towards might be enough to make some players rage quit, but if you can push through the frustrations, there's a funny, exhilarating game to be found underneath.

5 / 10 - DeadCore
Aug 6, 2017

487. That's the number of times I died in my first playthrough of Deadcore. It has been years since I've wrestled with a game as much as I have here. My hands were sweaty, my head was bobbing up and down as I moved on screen and I regularly shouted profanity at the TV when I died cheaply. Deadcore is a test of your reflexes, memory, persistence, observation, determination and patience and, if you like to be pushed to your limits, you might just like it.

I've said it a hundred times in TellTale reviews in the past but the first episode of the season is usually always its weakest, and as such the seasons tends to get stronger as they continue. Ergo, I remained optimistic for Episode 2. I'm glad I did, 'Giant Consequences' is a far more cohesive, fun experience, even if it still isn't completely essential.

The Enigma is an explosive start to Telltale's Batman: The Enemy Within. Apart from a handful of unusual character interactions that didn't feel like genuine reactions to the situation and some emotional moments that fail to land, this episode is action packed and once again boasts a tonne of originality.
