8 / 10 - Antihero
Jul 10, 2017

Overall Antihero has amazing and engaging gameplay that requires you to think rather than brute force it. The style is refreshing alongside the continual addition of mechanics keeping every level feeling fresh.

The necromancer class itself is very well polished and I am so much in love with it, however, for a standalone DLC and the pricing in mind, I think I would have liked to see more necromancer included aspects in terms of lore, instead of cosmetic stuff.

9 / 10 - Dark Train
Jul 18, 2017

"I don't know what it is about those dark dystopian game settings that I love so much, but let me tell you that Dark Train was way more than I ever expected and at the very least, I didn't expect it to touch my heart in the way it did. I'm not talking about where the story gets so sad that you sit down and cry, no, I'm referring to being able to connect and have a sentimental moment."

I loved it so much and it managed to immerse me perfectly into the atmosphere of the guardians. The humor was on par where it could be, there were sentimental moments, enough action and all in all a very nice balance of all elements. I cannot wait to play the next episode and see the big reveal that we found at the end of episode 2.

Black the Fall is an enjoyable, devilish platformer and one that deserves a tremendous amount of praise, however what it lacks is character and narrative, and this is what sadly prevents it from joining the top ranks of other titles in the genre.

8 / 10 - Aven Colony
Jul 24, 2017

Aven Colony has shaped itself up well with the other city-building game that are on the market today. It offers a Campaign mode with a good story line and an array of different objects to help mix it up a bit as well as having the sandbox mode that allows for endless, customisable fun.

This is very much Marmite: Those who enjoyed Season 1 and want more will happily eat this up. Those who did not enjoy Season 1 will not enjoy this new addition. Episode 1 adds nothing to the formula and for some that will be fine.

If you enjoy space based strategy games such as Stellaris then Starpoint Gemini Warlords is great for giving a new perspective on space combat, leading your fleet from the front lines.

Children of Zodiarcs plays out in a series of levels and missions in which your rag tag group of orphans, that all seem to possess some astonishing powers, must over come the enemy in turn-based combat.

The game is incredibly fun to play with a fantastic story, battles are interesting and entertaining, the features it has really make for a huge game with many hours of playtime, the license board and gambit feature really make you think about your party composition and strategy and just to top it off, it’s now been completely enhanced with new graphics and sound.

Overall, this action RPG is just up my street. Everything I want from an anime based series, familiar and charming characters, new roster of characters to engage with, old but new lands to explore and a solid combat system that is pretty simple to grasp.

Back in 2014 we thought Toybox Turbos was the closest thing we'd get to a revitalised reboot of Micro Machines, so upon reflecting on the release of an actual brand new Micro Machines, is Toybox Turbos a better Micro Machines game than World Series? It may not have had the franchise name but it tried to be Micro Machines and succeeded, whereas World Series IS Micro Machines and it's sadly disappointing.

The game looks fabulous on Switch, with framerates staying stable most of the time. It’s very colourful and despite the fact it doesn’t compete with some of the first-party Switch games in terms of fidelity, I was more than happy with it’s presentation. It is a good fit for Switch, as the relatively short battles have very little filler and suit short sessions well.

Cars 3: Driven To Win is ultimately another disappointing movie-tie to add to the increasing pile. Though it reaches beyond the very lows that this genre subset has ever sunk, the game is still far from being a wholly worthwhile experience. At its very best the game is just okay, and at its worse it is tedious and boring.

The game is trying to be something new in a world of companies just making MOBAs without much thought. There are some things that make the game interesting like the tag system and it’s overall style but they shoot themselves in the foot by having all these systems that aren’t that satisfying to deal with or can really put off players from sticking around.

It has some cute quirks, both in style and gameplay but suffers too much from that cute approach to design. The season mechanic keeps some of the game fresh but locks some stuff away. Crafting is quick and simple, combined with an easy to learn trading system in place for items you’re wanting to obtain.

Super Cloudbuilt is a game for those who want a hard time and really test their ability. If you’re looking for a breezy stroll in the park, you need not apply. While there are a few things I would have changed, I really couldn’t recommend Cloudbuilt enough, even if you only have a passing interest in free running.

7 / 10 - Death Squared
Aug 17, 2017

As much fun as I had with Death Squared it just seems a little bland when compared to the other big puzzles games available. It may sound harsh, but we can only know the quality of something by comparing it to its peers. And while Death Squared is certainly not the runt of the litter, it’s not the star either.

So Masquerada is set in the Citte of Ombre, which has a clear Venetian feel too it's design and is divided by class. At the top are the Masquerada, with access to Mascherines, masks that grant their wearers magical powers.

The episode itself spans about 2 hours long, which I believe is longer than your typical Telltale episode, so I very much enjoyed that (think is something characterized for Batman, I do believe the game’s episodes were longer than usual, or maybe that’s just the feel I’m getting … but I believe they are, because Tales from the Borderlands had that feel … feel only, so I can differ). In any case, I will definitely be eagerly awaiting what comes next in store for Batman…
