The game is trying to be something new in a world of companies just making MOBAs without much thought. There are some things that make the game interesting like the tag system and it’s overall style but they shoot themselves in the foot by having all these systems that aren’t that satisfying to deal with or can really put off players from sticking around.

Gangs of Sherwood quickly showed signs of promise with its fun spin on the classic Robin Hood tale and colourful combat but fell flat about halfway to the finish line with its lack of depth in certain areas (looting) and graphical bugs. The story is okay but nothing to write home about and the combat can quickly become repetitive after playing a certain character for multiple missions in a row.

For my first Dragon Quest Monster game and first Dragon Quest title in a very long time, I have to say I had mixed emotions. You have this trailed and tested turn-based combat with the monster-focused gameplay loop which is enjoyable but then it feels ruined with the dull storyline and performance issue that makes playing this game on the Switch frustrating. The Nintendo Switch has been out for a while now, so making games perfectly for it shouldn’t be an issue.

Ikonei Island An Earthlock Adventure is a mesmerizing game to look at but playing it is a whole different ball game. It has its moments of greatness with its mechanics however it just doesn’t deliver an equally great experience thanks to its design choices and awful controls. It felt like a drag to just go through Ikonei Island An Earthlock Adventure for the most part which is a huge shame to people playing it alone compared to being played alongside friends that help alleviate some of its mishaps. If you’re playing it with friends, then by all means, it will give you some form of fun but as a solo experience, it might not have that same effect.

‘Kona II Brume’ is a good continuation of the story set up in the first game, however, it doesn’t really bring anything different to the table. Yes, it’s a fun mystery adventure wrapped into a light survival game, but besides that, it doesn’t have much else to add to it that’s new.

Sword Art Online Last Recollection is something that I feel a bit biased about. I do love the game for its grind and what it’s trying to do despite its shortcomings. However, if I try to look at it objectively, the game itself is terrible. The game’s combat system is a slugfest of mashing buttons mixed with boredom. Not to mention across all its different weapon types, they all feel and play the same.

6 / 10 - Gothic
Nov 1, 2023

Gothic Classic immediately receives points for software preservation. Being able to play old games on modern systems without hoops to jump through is always a plus. Whether or not you enjoy Gothic Classic is another story entirely. Outside of the enhancements, it’s still the same game, for better and worse. Fans of Piranha Bytes games, and the Gothic franchise, will undoubtedly be over the moon while everyone else may need to take it with a pinch of salt.

6 / 10 - WWE 2K19
Oct 15, 2018

All in all, WWE2K19 has its ups and downs. I really enjoyed the Showcase mode and wish they had turned the tutorial into this but making objectives for you to complete rather than text pop ups. The customization options are ridiculous in such a good way for wrestlers and the content will surely keep you busy for a long time. The gameplay lacks and is better when you turn the counter limits off and the difficulty down but that is only from my experience. There is a lot here for a wrestling fan and you won’t be disappointed but they definitely need to fix the in-ring experience.

The sum is a fun but rough RPG, far more akin to classic RPGs than other games. It’s quick pace means you could easily blast a couple of hours out with Netflix on, and I haven’t had a good game to do that with in quite a while. Think of this like an older house: The foundations are rock solid, just the paint is rough and the kitchen needs remodelling.

6 / 10 - STONE
Oct 18, 2018

STONE isn’t a BAD game, in some ways, it showcases a game unlike many on the market and the fact that it features an LGBT relationship and has some adult themes is interesting. It’s unlike anything I’ve played for a while and its story and characters did intrigue me. But I was left a little disappointed. For two hours of gameplay, it just comes off feeling a little unpolished and lack-luster. It has some cool aspects and is probably a game you could really unpack if you had to write a 1000 word essay on it. But unless you’re the audience these guys intended it for, I might suggest you give this one a miss.

6 / 10 - Tower of Time
Apr 25, 2018

Overall, Tower of Time gets a 6/10. If you’re a fan of atmospheric and slow RPGs you may find some enjoyment in its systems and game design choices. Traversal feels slow and boring, with plenty of fights feeling unrewarding.

The Witch and the Hundred Knights 2 was very enjoyable from the beginning. Be worried that with this type of game you’ll have to do a considerable amount of reading but that personally didn’t put me off, I loved hundred knight and I loved the hack and slash feel the game had.

6 / 10 - Agony
May 29, 2018

Overall Agony is a good game, though it lacks a really scare factor after the first few scares it makes for some unique gameplay in a well-designed environment. I like the fact that it’s not linear, you can explore loads of different areas and do different things from what the main story is offering.

Even as a budget game (retailing for around £30) Showdown is tricky to recommend. It certainly looks the part: polished, lively menus, a pleasant if not stand-out soundtrack, an incredibly deep character creator: but all of this is style for a serious lack of substance.

I’m disappointed in the finale and maybe in the game as a whole. I remember enjoying episode 2 but that was about it. I also remember enjoying the first game WAY more than I did Before the Storm. As a verdict to this episode only I will stick to 6/10.

Overall my time playing Yomawari: Midnight Shadows was mixed, at times I found myself really enjoying it and wanting to progress then other I just felt like I wanted to put the control down and not pick it back up. The story was quiet dark but at the same time made you feel for the two girls but not being able to fight back against the spirits in anyway was a huge bug bear for me.

The game wants you to like it; it’s witty dialogue, the funky soundtrack and ambitious combat make for a charming experience. It feels like it needs some more polish though. There is an incredibly solid premise here moments in the game that had me locked in a rhythm of perfectly dodging enemies and surviving incredibly stacked encounters stylishly.

6 / 10 - Fjong
Feb 8, 2018

Fjong is a short, enjoyable distraction I will almost certainly never touch again, but it’s recommended to fans of similar games who don’t mind the price tag. Or genetic scientists still trying to work out what a Fjong actually is.

The story dives in a few places too. Characters sudden appearance and sudden disappearance just seems to be to fill holes in the story, and the introduction of new characters is done with some haste and feels janky. It seems like they had a solid beginning, but missed out time on the ending, focusing more on just connecting it to the next chapter than giving a fulfilling set of reasons to take you there.

6 / 10 - Tokyo Dark
Nov 1, 2017

While the game does offer a New Game+ mode, it offers little replayability other than the discovery of all the endings, including the games “true ending.” Mostly revolves around playing the same story over and over again, but does little to explain this mechanic or even give a reason to why Detective Ito is reliving these sequences exactly. Not that I need one but it does detract even further from the immersion.
