4.8 / 5.0 - Persona 5 Strikers
Feb 9, 2021

Persona 5 Strikers manages to add an exciting new chapter to the beloved title. Not only does it feel like a true crossover, rather than a reskinned version of another game, it genuinely brings out the best things both franchises have to offer. Combine this with great visuals, cool concepts, and striking cutscenes and it's a must for anyone who loves either game or just wants to play a Persona game without investing in an RPG. Sure, it might start off slow but it's an experience well worth the investment.

Despite being over a decade old, Shadow of the Colossus remains one of the best games of all time. Thanks to Bluepoint Games, the game has received a total make over, making this classic feel like a modern one. With improved frame rates and exemplary visuals, this is one of the games PS4 owner must have.

After six years and multiple releases, I must say the Switch version is probably the best way to play on consoles. Given the sheer amount of content and ability to play on the go, it makes this the definitive package to get for Switch. Regardless of whether you've played Diablo III before or not, I highly recommend getting it, even if some previous issues persist.

4.6 / 5.0 - Resident Evil 2
Jan 29, 2019

All in all, Resident Evil 2 is an excellent remake that modernizes the classic 1998 video game and makes it playable by today's standards. Not only does the game pay homage to the original game, but it also offers something fresh for both new and old fans of the franchise. This is easily an early 2019 ‘Game of the Year' candidate.

4.6 / 5.0 - Gears 5
Sep 10, 2019

After 13 years of the same thing, Gears 5 finally manages to change things for the better. With some much-added flair and long-overdue tweaks, it's a refreshing and easily the best the series has ever been. The Coalition did a phenomenal job with the campaign, co-op elements and the newly added Escape mode is an absolute delight. So, if you're expecting business as usual, you'll be pleasantly surprised by Gears 5.

Ori and the Will of the Wisps manages to exceed fan expectations. Not only does it build on what made the original great, like art style and story, it has a more refined combat making it even more fun to play.

4.6 / 5.0 - Streets of Rage 4
Apr 29, 2020

Not only does Streets of Rage 4 live up to the franchise's legacy, but it also manages to be different enough to stand out in this genre. This is one game where you won't get far simply mashing punch and you need to make bold plays and smart combos if you want to succeed. Thankfully, the reward is high and there is a fair number of ways to try to be the best warrior you can be, even if most of the experience will be score runs. So, if you're looking for a good modern beat 'em up game, there really isn't many things better than Streets of Rage 4.

There really isn't a whole lot of new things to say about Devil May Cry 5 Special Edition. It's a stunning game that added a new character, giving players something new to experience, plus various improvements to the overall experience. Ideally, it will be an idea of things to come, over one of the early games that suggested gimmicks were actually features but regardless of the outcome, it's easily one of the most impressive games you can play on PS5 right now.

Overall, Vermintide 2 is a worthy sequel to the 2015 original. It takes the combat systems and class system and expands upon them. This leads to a slightly deeper RPG experience where players can customise the gameplay to suit their style even more than before. The setting of Warhammer's End Times is unexpectedly incredible, with the new locations and Chaos enemies living up to the billing. Several features, such as grinding for loot, have been fixed or developed, making the whole game feel like a huge step up. It all comes together to craft an experience that is fun, fast and will undoubtedly become a glorious time sink for many… just don't go into the game expecting an easy ride.

To date, Resident Evil 4 remains one of the best titles in the franchise, with the Switch version being even better. Despite not being the best looking version of the game, the ability to play it on the go is a massive plus. Sure, the lack of gyro controls is a shame but it doesn't detract from an amazing series. That being said, returning fans really have no reason to return to it, as it's the same game as before.

4.5 / 5.0 - DJMAX RESPECT
Mar 9, 2018

Despite the shortcomings, DJMax Respect is a fantastic game at an amazing price. With over a hundred songs for $50~ and more coming in the future, it's an absolute must for anyone interested in the genre and/or games of the like. Sure, the difficulty can be overwhelming at times and it sucks certain things might take a long time to unlock but there is enough content elsewhere to keep you busy, with the additional stuff giving players something to work towards.

9 / 10.0 - Frantics
Mar 6, 2018

Frantics might not be perfect but it captures what makes games like Mario Party great. Anyone can win, provided they have the right tactic or are just lucky and it's never too late to come back. It's a shame the motion controls aren't the best, with it making some games far more difficult than they really should've been but the ability for four people to play without having to buy multiple controllers more than makes up for it. So, if you want a party game anyone can play or just something that supports four players locally on the PlayStation 4, Frantics is a solid choice. However, if controls are an issue or your phone doesn't support it, you might want to sit it out.

Treyarch has once again taken the Call of Duty to the next level, by adding something completely different – much like they did with Zombies. Call of Duty Black Ops 4 has taken bits from a lot of other popular games. Be it the instant hit Blackout, from the rise in popularity of battle royal, or Heist mode where you gain income each round but must purchase weaponry, akin to Counter Strike Global Offensive. Treyarch seems to have been happy to do this and experiment with features like a tweaked health system. It has paid off, despite there not being the storyline to play, there is more than ever to keep gamers hooked and playing Call of Duty for the next year!

Despite some minor flaws, Shadow of the Tomb Raider is an excellent addition to the new trilogy that started with the reboot in 2013. The fact that this game favors exploration over action sequences is a huge plus for me. It's also worth mentioning it's one of the most beautiful looking games you will play all year long. If you liked the new Tomb Raider games, then you will certainly enjoy playing Shadow of the Tomb Raider as this game brings back to the roots of the series where it focuses more on exploration rather than action.

NieR: Automata Become as Gods Edition is the definitive version, especially for those with an Xbox One X. The strong combat system makes for a fun experience, one that is enhanced by multiple endings of varying amounts of importance. Combine this with a complete adventure, one that includes the expansion, and it makes for a solid offering. Sure, it might not be on par with previous titles, such as Bayonetta or Vanquish, nut NieR: Automata still proves to be one of the best action games of this generation.

Overall, New Super Mario Bros. U Deluxe doesn't change what we expect from a Mario game and that is fine. Players are given both higher and lower difficulties, with neither making the game so easy it's no longer fun. Even skilled players can have fun with Toadette or Nabbit under the right conditions, just like Luigi U offers plenty of opportunities to learn. So, if you missed out on the original or never finished it, it's hard to say no to New Super Mario Bros. U Deluxe.
