The Game is a Lie's Reviews

Nov 13, 2017

Bubsy: The Woolies Strike Back is an unfortunate attempt at reviving a franchise that should have stayed dead. Every single aspect of the game is repetitive and tasteless, what leads me to believe that this game was made from corporate thinking.

2.5 / 10.0 - Anamorphine
Oct 25, 2018

Anamorphine, despite having a good idea in hand, suffers from an excessive sloppiness in its execution and ends up becoming a highly flawed experience that doesn't engage emotionally.

3 / 10.0 - Teratopia
Feb 1, 2021

Teratopia doesn't know which genre it wants to fit in, doesn't know who it's for and seems not to be able to decide on a tone to maintain. Even putting aside the appaling lack of ambition, it is deeply flawed in the most basic of concepts, resulting in an experience that's equal parts boring and frustrating.

3 / 10.0 - We Happy Few
Feb 4, 2019

We Happy Few is, above all, a disorganized game with no identity. It was inspired by great games, but fell into a limbo of bad executions and left the fact that it's nothing more than a copy clear as day. The game had a huge potential to become a classic but threw that all away.

4 / 10.0 - Calico
Dec 23, 2020

Pets, coffee and cuteness: what could possibly go wrong? Turns out, a lot. Calico proves that good intentions don't automatically lead to good products, with its short development period leading to a game that feels more and more undercooked at every turn.

4 / 10.0 - Desert Child
Dec 24, 2018

An aesthetically pleasing game is worthless if its gameplay is repetitive, dull and unimaginative. Oscar Brittain seems to not have realized that on time, unfortunately, and Desert Child ended up becoming another beautiful but extraordinarily shallow indie game.

Life is Strange 2's first episode kickstarts an emotionless journey that employs critical topics in the worst ways. It fails in many aspects and doesn't even get close to being as good as the first game, but at least it makes the player reflect a bit.

Need for Speed Payback just reuses its predecessors' formula. Despite having a very weak storyline, it kept me entertained for a few hours with its varied tests and missions.

Super Meat Boy Forever is good enough for a bit of entertainment, but there are few reasons to play it over the original game, which is still superior in nearly every aspect.

Morphies Law Remorphed had the potential to be a captivating online shooter, but it fails in gameplay quality and variety. Despite some noticeable improvements from the original game, it's hard to avoid the feeling that its great concept was wasted. Without a robust foundation, it doesn't matter how solid the walls and ceiling are — it all comes crashing down anyway.

5.5 / 10.0 - Broforce
Sep 4, 2018

Broforce is a very well-made action comedy game at first, besides being a great homage to the classic movie heroes. It's so long and repetitive, though, that the player's happiness slowly fades away, leaving behind an expression of frustration and weariness.

6 / 10.0 - TOHU
Feb 11, 2021

TOHU is not bad, per se, but I would have enjoyed it more were it a cartoon. Its gameplay is way too simple and the solutions to its puzzles way too absurd, resulting in a game that fails to truly captivate at any moment.

Headliner: NoviNews has some good intentions and can be very good during some sections of gameplay, but an oversimplified political system and lacklustre art and sound directions prevent the game from fulfilling its full potential. Having said that, it can still be a good entry point for people who want to get into the world of politics in a more meaningful way.

I notice a lot of lost potential here, be it a potential to expand this lovely world, or a potential to add compelling gameplay elements. Shape of the World is, ultimately, a pretty shell: gorgeous on the outside, but hollow on the inside.

6 / 10.0 - Minit
Nov 11, 2018

Too short to be memorable, Minit is painfully average. Its attempt at innovating fails, as well as its art direction, but fortunately it can still grant a few moments of fun on an uneventful evening, especially if you're a speedrun enthusiast.

Sigi: A Fart for Melusina is a fun, funny and addictive game, but not without several issues that sometimes worsen the experience. Its aesthetics and soundtrack are so well-made that it seems like the developers "forgot" to work on other important aspects. If the game had more worlds or stages and the bosses were more balanced, maybe it could become one of the best indie games of the year.

6 / 10.0 - Clustertruck
Jul 13, 2018

Clustertruck starts well and promising, but the level of fun starts to drop as the stages go by, reaching a point where it becomes more irritating than fun. The premise, however, is interesting, and it's possible to get a better enjoyment of the game playing it in small sessions.

Creature in the Well is not memorable, but potentially really fun in parts. If you can ignore the repetition and monotony in some levels and let yourself dive into the game's captivating and beautifully-crafted atmosphere, it's possible to enjoy the experience.

6.5 / 10.0 - 60 Parsecs!
Sep 25, 2018

With a gameplay style very similar to its predecessor - but very much improved -, 60 Parsecs! can be fun, but lacks variety right on its most prominent aspect: the plot.

Guns, Gore & Cannoli 2 offers a good experience, but there are vestiges of monotony and a lot of issues, be it in mechanics, level design and soundtrack. Besides that, it's extremely short.
