Returnal is Housemaruqe's best game. They succeeded in their greatest achievement by combining their history as a developer onto a higher budget, and it paid off immensely. If you have PlayStation 5 and you're not playing Returnal, you're not treating your PS5 right.
Death's Door is a crowning achievement for Acid Nerve, a must-play for the year and an instant game of the year contender.
Life is Strange: True Colors is a fantastic instalment of the franchise that returns to its roots while striving to push the franchise to become something even better.
Even as a game that feels more iterative, and less like a next-generational step, Forza Horizon 5 is still the best racing game you can play and the first must-play Xbox Series X|S game to be released since the launch of the console.
I've been keen to play Cult of the Lamb for a long time, and it hasn't disappointed me. The art design, audio and gameplay loop remain satisfying, while the concepts and the base building create enough things to do to round out the gameplay so that I never felt bored. The team at Massive Monster should be proud of their achievements, and I cannot wait to see what they create next.
Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown is the revitalization of a franchise that has long been buried in the sand of uninteresting ideas.
Don’t Nod has released 2024’s first truly surprising video game release with Banishers: Ghosts of New Eden. The 17th-century setting, ghost hunting and ethereal switching combat are all highlights, but building off what they do best, the characters, their relationships, and their story make this game unique.
Having put 70+ hours into Like A Dragon: Infinite Wealth, I can safely say that this title is going to give more bang for your buck than many other games this year. With an engrossing story, compelling characters and more side activities than you can poke a bat at, the value alone on this title makes this well worth picking up.
Forza Horizon 4 is a stunningly beautiful tour through the UK with a roster of cars that all control and sound unique with superb detail. The season’s system will keep Horizon 4 feeling constantly new and exciting, like a living world that is now populated with real players. This is the racing game to pick up in 2018 and one of the best games of the year.
It’s a damn shame Monster Hunter: World is doing so well because, I believe, Dynasty Warriors 9 would otherwise be a worthy recipient of that mainstream boost early calendar releases - and often slightly more obscure titles - receive. Perhaps if Dynasty Warriors 10 gives us some shared world, multiplayer coop action…
Astro Bot Rescue Mission is simply, amazing — a pure joy and a wonder that is a must play for all PSVR owners.
It's the year 2019 and our video game overlords have given us our mascot for the year.
The Last of Us Part II is, simply put, another generation-defining narrative that will push the whole industry forward.
Desperados III is simply one of the best stealth games can play right now.
It’s equal parts Metroidvania and player directed blood-bath and one of the best games of the year so far.
There’s undoubtedly a lot of Life is Strange in the DNA of Tell Me Why. The latest episodic narrative adventure from developer Dontnod deals with similar themes and features two young adults at the head of a personal narrative, with a little bit of supernatural twist thrown in.
With beautiful art direction, smart puzzles and terrific performances, Call of the Sea is a must-play for anyone who loves mystery, puzzles and romance.
RE: Village is an almost-perfect mix of the franchises' inspirations, with some of the most eccentric and exciting villains the series has seen in years.
Football Manager 2022 is the best in the franchise so far and makes sure that it’ll continue to sit at the top of the (small) mountain of sports management games.
All in all, Exo One is an intergalactic experience made excellent by its high-quality design on all fronts.
