For something that tries so hard to test your reflexes, Spectra ultimately tests your patience more than anything else.

6 / 10.0 - Firefall
Aug 15, 2014

As internet speeds have increased and gaming has become a more popular pastime, MMOs have begun rising and falling like the tide, and unless Firefall makes some drastic changes, there's not enough to entice players into logging in and keeping this game alive. If you want to play an MMORPG, you would be better off spending a few bucks up front for something that's actually fun.

6 / 10.0 - Sym
May 7, 2015

The world of Sym is very cool, but the flaws that don't belong really hurt the overall beauty of the game.

The nature of experimentation means that some ideas could falter, however, and Kirby and the Rainbow Curse is a prime example of not quite getting the results that I hoped for.

6 / 10.0 - High Strangeness

As it stands though, High Strangeness feels like a game that was built around a novel idea and hurried to completion.

6 / 10.0 - Contrast
Nov 15, 2013

Is Contrast art? Yes, but it's flawed art. While its concept is great and the atmosphere is phenomenal, that's as far as the brilliance goes. The gameplay simply doesn't hold up the weight of Contrast's dark and serious narrative, which proves that art games still need to be actual games.

As a way to show off all these new controls and concepts, Ground Zeroes is a success. As a full game experience, Ground Zeroes doesn't quite stand up. For everything Ground Zeroes does new and exciting, it's just a glimpse into the future of the franchise, and isn't a full-fledged game. Does it have us even more excited for The Phantom Pain? Absolutely. Did Ground Zeroes warrant a full retail release across multiple platforms? That's a bit more debatable. There are just too many empty calories here, and despite all the new facets presented, Ground Zeroes left us wanting.

Resident Evil: Revelations 2's first episode is a welcome return for the franchise, but it's a little lacking in the depth department. The mystery is interesting, but we hope there's a bit more explanation and story to explore in the next installment.

I don't fault Ubisoft for trying something different with its acclaimed Assassin's Creed franchise, and in some respects there's a lot to like. However when the game stumbles it does so in grand fashion, creating an infuriating experience that makes me want to throw my controller more than continue on my quest.

The challenge is well executed here, but the weakness in Hitman’s episodic structure starts to show with how out of place this chapter feels in context with the previous missions.

Hitman does a great job of painting each target as a villain worthy of assassination. Even when the target is someone as unassuming as Jordan Cross, the lead singer of an indie band.

Thanks to a number of issues with the PC port, Batman's adventure is off to one of the roughest starts we've seen from the developer.

6.5 / 10.0 - Yoshi's New Island

Given the difference in capabilities between the Nintendo DS and the 3DS, we had rather high expectations for Yoshi's side-scrolling return.

The game doesn't always flow perfectly, but Codename S.T.E.A.M is certainly a fun little strategy title.

Mix two servings of Chunsoft's Mystery Dungeon series with a heaping helping of Atlus' Etrian Odyssey series and you get Etrian Mystery Dungeon, a dungeon crawler offering deep dungeons and shallow gameplay.

Fatal Frame: Maiden of Black Water's full price tag might shy away some would-be buyers since it's only available in North America as a digital release, but veterans of the series or survival horror fans in general will certainly have a good time having an otherworldly photo shoot at Mt. Hikami.

6.5 / 10.0 - Need for Speed

Utilizing the full extent of the current-gen hardware, Need for Speed revs up into a promising experience that is all about underground and urban street racing, but that doesn't necessarily guarantee a smooth ride.

6.5 / 10.0 - The Last Guardian
Dec 23, 2016

The Last Guardian is an interesting and frustrating game that can't decide if it wants to be modern or retro, and that constant argument brings the entire experience down a notch.
