Secret Neighbor has come to Nintendo switch bringing a unique horror, multiplayer, online experience. Set in the world of the Hello Neighbour universe, things will be familiar to people who have previously played games in series. Though this time around your goals are all about team work. You select one of six kids and work together with the other members in your team to find key cards that are scattered around one of two houses, and locate all of the six keys to open the basement door locks and escape. All the while being pursued by an evil neighbour who is amongst your party in a disguise, waiting to strike.

The simulator genre has certainly been busy over the past few years. Farming Simulator has made a name for itself through its emphasis on realism and “hard work”. Meanwhile, Goat Simulator is a deliberately nonsensical parody, turning the genre on its head.

Another day, another new release from the console porting experts over at Ratalaika Games (though eastasiasoft are publishing). This time around it’s for Mina & Michi, the top-down 2D puzzler that launched on PC late last year. The game does add a twist to its puzzling antics – players have to control both characters at the same time as they lead them on their little adventure. It’s kinda like Brothers: A Tale of Two Sons in a way… just nowhere near as good.

Have you ever played a game that, at times, makes you want to hit yourself in the face with a cricket bat? Think of uncanny, wonky, physics-based games like QWOP or Getting Over It. These rage-inducing, weird games are cult hits but I am not sure they are that good or even that enjoyable. Welcome to the Rapid Reviews Balancelot PlayStation 4 review, sit back and prepare for disappointment.

Otti: The House Keeper has a simple concept with a take on the tower defence genre mixed with a few puzzle elements; you’re tasked with keeping thieves away from your treasure by placing various traps and fixtures to stop them reaching Otti at the very top of the map. There does seem to be a bit of confusion surrounding the title of the game. The console reads as “Otti House Keeper” whereas the Switch eShop page titles it “Otti: The House Keeper”. For the purpose of this review I’ll be using the latter.

You play as Lilly Witchgan and her various personalities. Levels are either puzzles (where you control two of Lilly’s personalities at once) or story interludes where you may also learn a new skill to be used in future puzzles. The difficulty lies in having to control two characters at once as you try to avoid the obstacles to get to the end of the level. Characters may move in different directions. For example, pushing ‘up’ on the directional joystick may move one of the characters up and the other down. Obstacles also appear in different locations for each of the characters.

The board game Connect Four is a staple for household board game fans. It has inspired many companies to produce similar titles over various platforms. Four in a Row attempts to replicate this classic formula while adding a simple twist. Instead of only being able to insert tokens from the top of the array, the player can insert pieces from all four sides.

Over the last few years, we have seen some exceptional Metroidvania games take the spotlight. Hollow Knight and more recently, the phenomenal Ori and the Will of the Wisps have pushed the genre forward in many ways. Unfortunately for Micetopia, developed by Ninja Rabbit Studio, it’s an adventure that has little going for it in comparison to its contemporaries. Let’s get into it.

If you’ve been to university, the chances are that at one point, pasta was your go-to base for a cheap meal. Even now, the versatility of pasta makes it an ever-present food item in my home, and to see a game created entirely about a sentient piece of spaghetti therefore intrigued me. Freddy Spaghetti follows Freddy as he comes to terms with his reality as a living piece of pasta, and documents the havoc he causes in the past, present, and future. Dr. P Starr soon comes to regret his actions in creating Freddy, and endeavours to stop him before it’s too late to save humanity.

Best Friend Forever is a visual novel covering the first fifteen weeks living in your new apartment. You have just moved to a new city and you are constantly meeting new friends and their dogs. Establishing relationships with these people is the main premise of the game, but you will also groom, feed, and nurture your dog daily. As it is a visual novel, the game focuses on the story, and reading dialogue is the majority of gameplay.

Take command of the legions of troops loyal to one of three Vampire blood lines. Drawing on pretty much every cliché and gothic trope, you can imagine Immortal Realms: Vampire Wars liberally applies its source material to everything that it does. The question, therefore, is how well does the game use its inspiration and does it make sense?

I must confess that I have never watched the Deadliest Catch TV show but upon hearing the game’s title, I was intrigued. I envisioned hunting down a vicious shark, the waves smashing the boat and travelling at breakneck speeds. It was certainly a surprise when I discovered that the “deadly catch” comes in the form of crab-fishing but is the game on troubled waters? Find out in this Rapid Review.

Whilst Ageless may appear to be a pretty standard platformer on the surface, the game predominantly focuses on a unique time mechanic. Kiara, our protagonist, uses a bow which can either advance or send back an object or animal in time. For example, the opening levels feature a dolphin who, by using the bow, can be changed into a whale for a bouncy platform. This feature helps Ageless stand out from the pixel platformer genre and even the puzzle genre in general. The time mechanic is something I haven’t played before and adds a real depth to the puzzles on offer.

From what I can tell from the excellently animated introduction, Bounty Battle brings a whole host of iconic Indie stars into battle. A strange portal appears in each of their worlds, dragging our heroes into a void and bringing them to another world entirely. There, a bounty is placed on each of their heads, and each character must fight to claim the bounties on each other.

I’ve always had an interest in the strange and surreal. Who cares about the ordinary when the world offers so many wonderfully weird things to enjoy? From the title alone, I knew Ultra Hat Dimension was going to be a slice of interesting oddness.

Let’s get straight down to brass tacks. The performance of Deadly Premonition 2 is nothing short of appalling. With a stuttering frame-rate, inaudible cutscenes, texture pop-in that begs the question as to why they even bothered adding the asset in at all and loading times so long you’ll be left wondering if the game has crashed. All of these equate to a game that is almost unplayable. The most important word in this paragraph? Almost.

In the near future, an economic crash caused by under-population and pollution leads to huge food shortages and starvation across the world. A reprieve from these desperate times is granted in the form of a unique device called ‘Bionodes’ which when implanted in a Human allows them to eat anything. However this device has side effects of its own which turned most of the population into mutants and are known as “ghoulification”.

I think all of us can relate to having that one tycoon game that left us staring at a screen for hours, completely unaware of the time passing. There’s something about management games that draws many of us in and becomes addictive, whether that be running your own theme park or building your own city. I’m not sure what this power lust and control says about humans… When I saw Chef in our games list, I was happy to review it, having spent many hours on titles such as Rollercoaster Tycoon and Planet Zoo. A restaurant sim was something I’d never really played before, besides old flash games on the family PC on rainy days. But was it a recipe for disaster or the creme de la creme of restaurant tycoons?

Fan or not, we are currently in an age of remasters with games such as Resident Evil 2 & 3 and more recently, Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 1 & 2 receiving the remaster/remake treatment. What has come as a total suprise to everyone is the release of a Commandos 2 & Praetorians: HD Remaster Double Pack. With gamers currently screaming out for other remakes such as the long rumored Mass Effect Trilogy, how do these two relatively unheard of strategy games fare now they are thrust back into the spotlight?
