Pulling off a rich, expertly-weaved narrative for a dystopian title is no mean feat, and the team at Compulsive Games managed to do so. Buoyed by beautiful visuals but brought down heavily by combat mechanics and the hefty price tag, it would perhaps be more accurate for We Happy Few to be titled We Okay Few instead. Steam sale anyone?
Nevertheless, it is rare to find a game like LEGO Bricktales, which embraces the building aspect of things rather than going the more tried-and-tested route. It will be the closest thing you can get to building LEGO in the real world without the investment or mess, but this good idea comes with its own challenges when it comes to the controls and, to a lesser extent, the lack of a helping hand. Hopefully, this will only be the beginning of a new way to look at LEGO games, and certainly a good foundation to build off of.
An experience that is a departure from the norm, Endling – Extinction is Forever is a game that pushes a real-world agenda that could definitely use your attention if you care enough.
With plenty of potential to bring Assassin’s Creed Valhalla to a new divine level, Dawn of Ragnarök falters by sticking to the same familiar formula and restricting players for truly unleashing the powers of a god.
Eight years on, Kingdoms of Amalur still feels, looks and plays just like it did when it first released — and not for the best of reasons. THQ Nordiq missed out on a ton of opportunities to fine-tune many of its kinks, which look really outdated in today’s gaming landscape. Otherwise, it’s always nice to dive back into one of the most underrated fantasy RPGs in the past decade.
God Eater 3 is a solid party-based monster-slaying RPG, with tons of riveting action, customisation options (though a little overwhelming at times) and overall a smooth gameplay experience.
Ace Combat 7: Skies Unknown requires a certain grasp of combat flight mechanics from past gameplay experience, which makes it punishing and brutal for newcomers. Long-time fans, however, should seek comfort and pleasure in taking to the skies once again as they relive the thrill of flying and dogfighting, while being treated to polished, finely-detailed visuals.
Dead in Vinland is far from perfect. What it is, however, is proof that a well-worn genre can be revitalised through the addition of new elements – which CCCP has executed well, if a little overdone. A nice territory for newcomers to explore, and a new experience for the veterans of the survival genre.
Overall, Sea of Stars is a robust indie RPG that’s both nostalgic and fresh. Sabotage Studio’s dedication to gorgeous art and engaging gameplay mechanics coalesces into a game that, despite a few flaws, shines brightly amidst the gaming landscape. Seasoned RPG enthusiasts and casual players alike will be able to enjoy its thrilling adventure and inviting world.
A game that truly knows what it delivers and does so excellently, Powerwash Simulator is perfect for players seeking a simple and relaxing time while engaging in a relatively straightforward affair. While cleaning, in reality, can be annoying, the meditative nature of Powerwash Simulator proves otherwise with a controller in your hands. Although it is certainly not made for everybody, for those willing to don the suit, it can be one hell of an addictive ride trying to erase all existence of dirt for a paycheque.
In the end, The Callisto Protocol ramps up the atmospheric horror with plenty of visceral action, with the linear design helping to keep the focus on the main objective from start to finish. Although it can have trouble when it comes to empowering the player and losing its horror edge, the main issue remains the fact that we have all seen and done this before. Depending on your preference, that might just be exactly what you want, but the nightmare fades a little, especially with the Dead Space remake on the horizon.
Despite the nature of this recognisable mascot character, Sonic Frontiers is perhaps best enjoyed when you take the time to see everything each island has to offer. Be it combat, platforming, or exploration; there is something in it for every kind of Sonic player, even if frustrations are never too far away. Yet, the overall direction of Sonic Frontiers is exactly what the series needs, and hopefully, future releases will continue to build on this foundation and go full steam ahead.
If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it, and Just Dance 2022 maintains the formula for both good and bad.
Not exactly the all-star debut, MLB The Show 21 is still the frontrunner for the best baseball experience on consoles.
New ideas and changes mark XCOM: Chimera Squad as a departure from the main XCOM series, for good and for worse.
The Outer Worlds: Peril on Gorgon is about more of the same good stuff that made the base game great, and sometimes, that is enough.
Taking a stressful real life situation and making it into a game? Moving Out certainly has nailed the experience and we wish there could be more to it.
FIFA 20 remains the top choice for quick, arcade fun, especially with Volta, but it fails in simulating a decent game of football on the pitch.
It might not push or break any barrier but Team Racing Sonic is still an overall fun and enjoyable kart racing game. Definitely recommended for any fans of Sonic the Hedgehog.
Beautiful visually and pleasing on the ears, Battle Princess Madelyn could have been much more. Unfortunately, it is bogged down by poor design choices and mechanics that need a more modern touch.
