Loved - SAMUDRA
Sep 30, 2021

SAMUDRA Is a story about hitting rock-bottom (the ocean floor) and Trip’s long laborious expedition back to the surface. It is also a story about the deep ocean and the damage pollution does to it. Which carries a warning that we all must heed if we intend to stay on this planet. You can do your bit for the environment by purchasing the game as profits from the game’s sales will partially fund a year-round collaboration with the Indonesian Environmental Activist Circle to reduce plastic usage in Indonesia by 70% in 2025.

Loved - G-Darius HD
Oct 8, 2021

G-Darius HD is one of the finest entries in the series. A fine example of a 2D game moving in the 3D realm in all the right ways. Maintaining the core design of the series whilst adding the excitement of the arcade. Love your schmups? This is an essential purchase. New to the Darius series? This is a good place to start and one of the more affordable games in the series on the eShop. M2 recreated the arcade atmosphere with fine precision making me feel all the thrills and pleasures of that era from my youth which seems so far away these days. Whenever I need a lift in the spirits G-Darius HD will easily be a game I’ll reach for.

Regency Solitaire was quite a surprising game for me to review as I didn’t really think there would be that much to the game when I started playing it, so I was pleasantly surprised. It’s an enjoyable, solid game of solitaire, mixed with a visual novel, an unusual combination but it works! Give Regency Solitaire a try and you might be surprised too.

Takorita Meets Fries was a funny, silly, and overall brilliant experience that came at just the right time for me. It ticked all the right boxes and has easily become one of my favourite visual novels ever. I highly recommend playing it!

Loved - Growbot
Oct 21, 2021

Growbot is an interesting and enjoyable game, I loved my time with it. With gameplay inspired by adventure classics such as Loom and Machinarium, and beautiful hand-drawn artwork created by a seasoned children’s book illustrator, charming characters and an intriguing narrative. If point and click games are your go-to genre, this is one that should be in your library.

Loved - Townscaper
Oct 25, 2021

Townscaper is the grown-up equivalent of the latest children’s toy that all the kids are all playing with a Fidget Spinner. It is calming, relaxing, refreshing, and gives you creative control over the world you choose to make or just mess around with. I don’t have any niggles with the game, other than I think the addition of having little people appear on the paths that are created would be wonderful. I realise Townscaper will not be a game all gamers will like, but if you are curious you should at least give it a try.

Airborne Kingdom is a very enjoyable strategy game. It can be slow going at times, especially if your ship is slow-moving due to the way you have built your city. I love the uniqueness of the airship and the added addition of propulsion and lift that you do have to pay attention to. The maps are quite big and there are lots of places and Wonders to discover. With sandbox mode and the Game+ mode, there are endless play options to build the airship of your dreams.

For those of us who like Sokoban style puzzles, you will find everything you are looking for in Rob Riches. Reasonably priced and a pretty challenging game in the later levels. The game ran fine on my laptop and the controls work as they should. Rob Riches is a solid and enjoyable puzzle game that gets my vote.

Clockwork Aquario is just a wonderful arcade experience that had me grinning throughout. As a retro gamer and Wonder boy series fanboy this seemed like probably the best early Xmas present I could ask for this year (that’s gaming related). Now putting my fandom to the side I will point out this is a very short arcade game with very minimal extras. Some may feel this doesn’t justify the price of entry. However, this art style is gorgeous, the game is co-op and the feel-good factors I had playing this more than justifies the praise that this product deserves. Clockwork Aquario may have been deemed unsuitable for the industry back in the day but it sure fits in now and I’m grateful to have been given the opportunity to experience it.

Cruis’n Blast is a fantastic explosion of arcade goodness. If you’re looking for an arcade racer that’s just about having fun and enjoying some good music then this is a must buy. It is also a great game to enjoy with up to four players locally, even for players not well versed in racing games. The entire time I was playing the game I had a huge smile on my face from the comfortable controls and the utterly absurd spectacle on display. Plus, this game has dinosaurs, which is always a win in my books. The game may be incredibly short but it’s highly replayable. Cruis’n Blast will not be leaving my Nintendo Switch anytime soon and hopefully, you’ll enjoy it as much as I did.

If you like relaxing platformers, this is a great game to pick up. I really don’t have any complaints about this title; it’s filled with charm, great puzzles, and the world’s cutest little robot friend. The music, the world, and the environmental clues make for a wonderful game.

If crafting, exploring and lots of humour are what you look for in a game, then Wytchwood is the game for you. I’ve certainly enjoyed my playthrough of the game. The story is interesting, the characters are cutesy, dark, and grotesque with humour sprinkled in for good measure and fantastic graphics to top it all off. Wytchwood is definitely one of my games of the year and it receives our highest score.

Shovel Knight Pocket Dungeon will absolutely scratch that puzzle itch if you’re looking for something original and different. A simple pick up and play concept that is easy to get into but offers plenty of challenges to keep you coming back again and again. With extensive options and accessibility. This title offers an experience you can tailor to your liking which I can see many gamers appreciating. This may be the PC version I’m reviewing but I will likely grab this game on Nintendo Switch as it truly feels like a pretty brilliant pocket puzzler. So, grab a shovel and get puzzling.

Chicory: A Colorful Tale is a delightful adventure. It has an intriguing story, innovative gameplay mechanics, well-written characters, engaging puzzles, and a heart-warming story. Now that the game has been released on the Nintendo Switch, I think it’s found the perfect home. I highly recommend you give Chicory: A Colorful Tale a try. If I could, I’d give it four thumbs up. I love it!

Flynn: Son of Crimson may just look like another 2D adventure, something that there really is no shortage of in releases this year alone. But this one ranks up easily as one of the greats. Tight combat, a great soundtrack and an adventure that is short but instantly replayable. Flynn: Son of Crimson is a game that doesn’t waste your time. I don’t remember a moment where I was bored or frustrated despite playing many games like this before. It even gave me Wonder Boy vibes which is always good in my book. Plus it has one of the coolest spirit dogs in gaming. A fantastic way to top off 2021 for me and I hope you too find the time to check it out.

Arcadia Fallen is a great title for fantasy lovers who want good LGBTQ+ options and good world-building. The game takes around 6-7 hours if you read fast, which is a tad brief for the price tag. However, your choices can change outcomes, such as which romantic partner you’ll show interest in, so there is replay value. It comes down to how much you value the strengths of this title. As for me, I greatly enjoyed it and rate it…

Cities: Skyline has been one of my favourite games since its release, which is why it’s firmly on my list of the Best City Building Games . With the Airport DLC, constructing a small airfield right up to large international hubs, cargo and transport hubs add much more to your city and tourism. Cities: Skylines – Airports DLC is my favourite DLC out of them all.

Certain elements of Arceus remind me of action games such as Zelda: Breath of the Wild and Monster Hunter, but with the battle, trade, and collection of previous games still intact. Pokémon Legends: Arceus has undergone significant changes, ultimately making the game better for it. After having played all the previous Pokémon games in the series, I can say I love it, give it a go, and you might love it too!

Letters – a written adventure is a very enjoyable heartwarming game with a relatable coming of age story. I found the story held my attention right up till the end of the game. The use of words in the game is well implemented, focusing on narration and having fun with words with a little word puzzling thrown in for good measure.
