1 / 10.0 - Unturned
Jan 9, 2021

Again, I don’t want to be a bully, but this game is simply unfinished. I should point out that there is no end goal either. The game expects you to run around, loot, kill zombies, and build a base forever. Perhaps you and a friend or two could have a bit of fun playing with one another, but that just means you have fun friends. With such a mindlessly repetitive, uninspired, and predictable gameplay loop and my now go-to example of horrible visuals, Unturned is, like a zombie, better off dead.

2 / 10.0 - Lunch A Palooza
Feb 1, 2021

This is a game that I would only recommend for very young children that cannot grasp the concept of gameplay.

2 / 10.0 - Tiny Racer
Jan 31, 2021

Somewhere deep down in the development brief for Tiny Racer there is a glimmer of a good idea, but, unfortunately, a good idea on its own does not make a good game. A poor physics engine, uninspired gameplay and glitches up the wazoo make Tiny Racer difficult to redeem. If you want an arcade racer to play with friends, Tiny Racer is several continents away from being in a position to compete for Mario Kart’s throne.

3 / 10.0 - Blood Waves
Sep 19, 2022

Blood Waves is an arena-based zombie survival game that fails to hit the mark. With poor controls, lacklustre mechanics, and dated graphics, it will disappoint you. I can't recommend it as there are many better games in this genre.

3 / 10.0 - Beast Quest
Mar 12, 2021

It always pains me to be so brutal about a game, but when one has no redeeming qualities, and misses the mark on all points, then it wouldn’t be fair to recommend it. Beast Quest had so many opportunities to get the game to a reasonable standard, but it tried and failed repeatedly. If you want an RPG adventure title then look elsewhere, the market has plenty that are leaps and bounds ahead of this. If you want to buy it, you can here! Tom must learn to be a Knight and save humanity and the land of Avantia from the evil Wizard.

3 / 10.0 - Decay of Logos
Mar 8, 2021

It’s never enjoyable to read off a list of all of the things wrong with a game. I did my best to keep an open and optimistic mindset during my experience with Decay Of Logos. Unfortunately, I couldn’t find many good things to say and can’t recommend this title. It’s not necessarily a broken game, just very rushed and unfinished. The glitches, slowdown, and mundane collection of motifs that have been done to death don’t add up to anything worth seeking out.

There isn’t much I can recommend within SC5. The few positives were all brought from twenty years ago and haven’t been improved upon. There was a lot that could’ve been done, but it seems like a cash grab on the franchise instead of a passion project from lifelong fans. If you were fans of the previous entries, by all means go for it, but I would not make this a jumping in point for any newcomers.

3 / 10.0 - Another Dawn
Feb 3, 2021

I’m a “The glass is half full” sort of man. I like to see the positives in everything. Another Dawn pushed me to my limits. With few redeeming qualities, and mainly broken elements that are unacceptable in today’s industry, there is little to be cheery about. The premise is sound, with some interesting lighting effects, and well designed music. But these parts are glued together with some unwelcome and poorly executed vital mechanics. I cannot, and will not, recommend that you buy this. However, a link to the store is here is you wish to tarnish your library. It’s a poorly executed mess that is as broken as it is dated.

3 / 10.0 - Gelly Break
Jan 28, 2021

The best moments of the game were spent fighting unique adversaries that lacked character. The complete absence of lore makes the game easily forgettable. Deep in the bones of Gelly Break there are potentially strong ideas, but the failure to capitalize on them left me just wanting to go back to playing Monster Hunter Generations Ultimate.

Overall, I feel like the developers of this game just tried to make a quick buck by porting over their old game without adding any new constructive updates. With bigger, better, and more entertaining fighting games in the market today, Fatal Fury: First Contact does not have any features that would keep me playing for long hours. I wouldn’t recommend it to any fighting game enthusiast to get the game unless it’s for nostalgia’s sake. Casual players might find it fun for a while but probably wouldn’t spend hours on end on the game.

There’s an interesting concept for a horror game here with an insane story burdened by many issues. It’s a shame since the story is interesting, but not interesting enough to put up with so many flaws. Perhaps the true villain in Remothered: Broken Porcelain are the lengthy loading screens (on Xbox One at least) that will surely haunt the dreams of those that experience them.

Override 2: Super Mech League is currently wasted potential incarnate. It looks good, and it has all the aesthetic bells and whistles one could ask for, but the heart of the game is lacking. The mechanics are stiff, clunky, and all too exploitable. The levels are unimaginative and feel even more unusual when compared to the wonderful character design. As it is, the game looks great, but is a glorified button masher that is in desperate need of innovation.

Crypt of the Serpent King is a dungeon crawler that fails to fulfil its potential. Sadly, the action is too easy, the mechanics understated, and it lacks finesse. It should have been fantastic but it lacks a spark and any difficulty.

4 / 10.0 - Bob Help Them
Mar 23, 2021

The village and characters general lack of personality is disappointing, and the inconsistency of the games challenge offers little to draw the player back. The game is fine in small doses, but honestly, it isn’t anything you can’t find elsewhere in the genre.

4 / 10.0 - Castle Kong
Mar 7, 2021

Overall, Castle Kong tries to recapture the original Donkey Kong’s original feel and succeed in doing that but maybe slightly too well, leaving the game to feel very slow. Castle Kong is also frustratingly difficult, and the long respawn times make the temptation of switching over to something out very appealing.

4 / 10.0 - Brawl Chess
Feb 20, 2021

Unfortunately the game in its current form, is just a first draft. Better to stick with your home chess set, for now.

As a whole, I can see why this game is appealing. But with sticky controls and extreme repetition it’s not something I see myself picking up in the future. I don’t even think I’d recommend it to a younger audience since the challenge fluctuates too much and it’s not something you’d play enough to see the credits roll. I’d just leave it if I were you, unless you have a hidden love for the Captain Sabertooth franchise.

Overall, Space Invaders Forever seems lacking in any real thought, while extreme is a delightful trance trip. Gigamax 4SE offers so little, and Arkanoid vs. Space Invaders is a frustrating addition to the collection that feels like a complete afterthought that they threw in to try and justify a very hefty price tag. No extras are included in the collection, which is also a shame and adds to how bare-bones the experience is.

4 / 10.0 - Sakura Wars
Feb 7, 2021

Overall, I think Sakura Wars just isn’t for me. If you like a game that’s framed as a long anime TV show with the occasion interactive section, this game is 100% for you. If you like dating sims for their depiction of ‘healthy’ relationship building, this game is 100% for you. If you’re more interested in a game’s aesthetic theming, art style and soundtrack than the gameplay, this game is 100% for you. Unfortunately, I’m none of those people so the appeal of Sakura Wars passes me by. If you’re a veteran of the genre, I’m sure Sakura Wars is a great example of an action role-playing dating sim. However, as a layman with no history with the franchise, Sakura Wars looks to me to have very little going on and what is going on is slow, drawn-out and low-key misogynistic.

It’s impossible to recommend this game, or even this series, when it gets a new low-quality entry every single year. No story, tense music or any decent action to speak of, this feels like a fan-fiction web browser game getting a yearly FIFA update. If you’re an ardent fan of survival horror games, then perhaps it’s worth following the incremental updates as it may eventually result in a decent release, but let me assure you, it’s not now and it’s not Outbreak: The New Nightmare.
