An entertaining way to spend an evening with friends, with enough twists and turns to justify at least two or three playthroughs.
Tin Hearts manages to hit the puzzle game sweet spot, offering just the right amount of challenge. Its excellent puzzles, backed by great ambience, make it worth struggling with the less-than-optimal controls, and help you to ignore the 2010s-era character models.
Thymesia offers an excellent combat system and some clever twists on old mechanics; it's a shame that the story and level design aren't nearly as strong. If combat is your thing, or you're in need of another action RPG, Thymesia fits the bill, but some players may find themselves losing interest after the tenth same-y corridor.
Despite a steep learning curve, Monster Energy Supercross 5 manages to offer a satisfying experience even for players new to the genre. While some of the extras like the skill trees don't always stick the landing, it's a polished and well-crafted experience that's likely to please both hardcore and casual Supercross fans alike.
Timemelters is a fun game that offers unique mechanics and design which are cleverly implemented, resulting in a satisfying overall experience. The game is smooth running with no glitches or performance issues, but the story and characters struggle to leave any impression, and a few more cutscenes could've gone a long way. Still, even the most story-driven gamers shouldn't shy away from this fresh and exciting product. Give it a chance and you won't be disappointed.
A deftly told tale, with a well-realized and unique cast of chracters. While it sometimes lacks for choice, the choices you are offered are interesting, and anyone fiending for more Disco Elysium could do a lot worse than Sovereign Syndicate.
Reigns: Three Kingdoms is a worthy successor to the Reigns throne. As a mobile game it can feel awkward on a PC, but it has a nice minimalist style and offers some solid storytelling and world building.
While missing some staples of a typical RPG, Long Gone Days is a great game, with a grounded story that effectively showcases the effects war can have on people.
Larian Studios has truly managed to strike gold with Baldur's Gate, managing to satisfy old trends and innovate with new ones. Baldur's Gate 3 may be the RPG with the most player freedom available on the market today, but all that choice does come at a cost.
Afterimage is a great Metroidvania with a beautiful artstyle and a large world that you can enjoy it in. While there are a few issues with it, the progression and combat make it a fun experience overall. If you want to get the full story of the world and its characters, however, be prepared to hunt for it.
If you like city builders and aren't afraid of a little crunch, give Pharaoh: A New Era a shot-- it'll feel refreshingly different from any modern game in the genre. It's challenging, well-presented, and makes the tweaks it needs to make to be accessible, without compromising on the game's soul.
A fun little tragicomic narrative adventure game, Backfirewall_ gets a lot right, with its vibrant environments, apt audio tracks, and authentic characters. The only thing holding back this brief but bombastic game is a slow start to the story and its easy puzzles. An excellent choice for gaming beginners, or people looking for a relaxing way to wind down.
Vengeful Guardian: Moonrider might be a throwback to the 80s and 90s, and wears its inspirations on its sleeves, but there is a lot more to it than just nostalgia. While Moonrider has flaws, and is a very short experience, it is one worth experiencing for anyone with a fondness for classic platformers and grungy aesthetics.
Gotham Knights has a lot more to offer than meets the eye. It cannot be denied that the game is already dated, technically inefficient, and full of bizarre choices. Still, I cannot help to praise all it does right, especially that which has gone ignored by critics in favor of easy nitpicks and criticisms. The combat mechanics and worldbuilding are a special highlight.
Soulstice is a fun action game that shows just how powerful a sisterly bond can be. While there are flaws holding it back from being amazing, it gives an overall satisfying combat experience.
While being a short experience, Video Game Fables is a very engaging game that never takes itself too seriously. Fans of RPGs will enjoy seeing how the game jokes about many aspects of the genre.
Road 96 has a great story supported by a cast of interesting and likable characters and anchored by satisfying mini-games. The procedural nature of this game promises that each playthrough will be unique.
Final Fantasy's first attempt at making a Souls-like game delivers on fun gameplay and a flawed but satisfying origin story on Final Fantasy I's Garland. Long-time fans of the series will enjoy the nods to their favorite games while hunting down Chaos.
The Invincible is a competent first person exploration title, with a wonderful astropunk aesthetic married to a compelling narrative. There are minor issues with navigation, but not enough to prevent the game from being an enjoyable experience.
A solid entry in the Metroidvania genre, The Last Faith wears its influences on its sleeve, and provides a fun hack-and-shoot-and-spell adventure while doing so. It isn't particularly original — but it's fun, so who cares?
