10 / 10.0 - Octopath Traveler
Aug 24, 2018

Octopath Traveler is pure magic on every level and easily one of the best games of 2018 thus far.

10 / 10.0 - Resident Evil 2
May 13, 2021

Capcom has proven themselves to be extremely capable of not only capturing what made the original game so incredible – but how to add little touches to improve it. Resident Evil 2 is not a simple remake, it’s a love letter to the franchise and the fans who have stood by the series through thick and thin. Do not miss this.

10 / 10.0 - Overcooked 2

Overcooked 2 lives up to and improves upon its predecessor, it’s a joy to play from beginning to end. Whether it’s the perfected gameplay, sharp-witted dialogue, catchy music or cute art style, there is something to love in every area of the game.

9.8 / 10.0 - Root Letter
Oct 28, 2016

Going into Root Letter, I wasn't sure what to expect, but I am glad I've been able to spend time with it. A thoroughly enjoyable experience and truly a treat for both the eyes and ears, PQube's Root Letter is one not to be missed. It speaks to the game's excellence that the closest thing to a fault I can find to mention is that minor characters aren't voiced - and that is hardly an issue when it amounts to literally characters with so few lines you won't actually remember being unvoiced. The rest of the cast of characters are brought to life with incredibly emotive voicework that makes an immersive story even more engrossing. I really hope that going forward, we see more games similar to Root Letter localised by PQube.

Overall, Umineko When They Cry (Question Arc) is nothing short of a masterpiece. To put in other words, a chef-d'œuvre among visual novels. The story, characters, and music blend perfectly together to create this flawless work. If I had to nitpick, the inconvenience on parts of the UI would be my biggest gripe. This is a series recommended not only to visual novel fans, but also to those eager for a great mystery and story. Umineko is a work that transcends its medium and is a work nearly everyone should experience.

Superdimension Neptune is an incredibly enjoyable entry in the Neptunia series, and it's great to see the Sega Hard Girls co-starring, and producing the best character roster yet. The game retains enough similarities to earlier Neptunia games so as not to alienate fans while mixing things up enough to provide a game that feels new and keeps you coming back for more. The time loop mechanic may have been done before, but, for me at least, it's relatively fresh. Superdimension Neptune is probably the best game I've played this year, and I look forward to seeing what's next for the Neptunia franchise.

Megadimension Neptunia VII has not only become my favourite title in the franchise, but it is easily one of the greatest games I have had the fortune of playing. My playtime may only hover at around 26 hours thus far, but it's certain that I'll be investing significantly more time in this game. Neptunia has transitioned to the latest generation of consoles excellently, with the visuals being nothing short of a delight to behold; the same can be said of both audio tracks, and I'm not usually one for English audio tracks.

9.5 / 10.0 - Nier: Automata
Mar 11, 2017

Nier: Automata has not only become one of my favourite games of 2017, it’s become one of my favourite games of all-time. The story is stunning, deep and memorable, introducing us to some lovable and fantastic characters. Turn the sound right up, sit back and enjoy one of the best action games you’ll ever play.

9.5 / 10.0 - Tales of Berseria
Jan 25, 2017

Tales of Symphonia was my entry game to the “Tales of” series and I’ve been a major fan ever since. To me, Tales of Berseria is another great addition to the ever-growing franchise. Not only that, it was a major improvement to its predecessor Tales of Zestiria. Allowing both series to be connected also helped bolster their shared world’s lore. With how enjoyable Tales of Berseria is, I look more forward to the next major “tale.”

9.5 / 10.0 - Muv-Luv
Aug 5, 2016

Though I did have a number of cosmetic complaints, the first two instalments of Muv-Luv overall were very enjoyable and I will definitely come back to replay the series to relive that enjoyment. It is ironic, however, that even though the two series are very good, they are just a set-up for the final part of the trilogy. I look forward to the day when Muv-Luv Alternative gets released.

Megadimension Neptunia VII is definitely the best Neptunia game out so far for PC. Everything about the game was enjoyable from the gameplay itself to the dialogue and story. Idea Factory has hit the jackpot with this series and I expect more Neptunia games to be ported for PC gamers.

I’ve used a number of words throughout this review in an effort to praise various aspects of the game but none really express my thoughts well enough so they’ll have to do. Amazing, brilliant, fantastic – this game is all of those and more!

What can I say, this game is fun, addicting and insanely brilliant. Tearing myself away from it to write this review was a challenge in itself. The visuals are impressive even though it was originally only developed for PlayStation Vita. The basic game mechanic has been carried over from previous iterations and they are perfect. You can sink so much time into raising your Digimon, but it’s so rewarding that I can’t stop! If you’re a fan of Digimon or JRPGs, then buy this game it’s absolutely fantastic you won’t regret it.

This game has been made for fans new and old, meaning whether you've played the previous titles or not, you can dive straight in here. Sure, you won’t know who each and every character is, but you'll still be able to enjoy the story. If you're apprehensive, it’s time to push those fears aside, this is a must-own title!

With an emotional and compelling plot, combined with a fantastic battle system and an awesome soundtrack, this Final Fantasy will be one entry into the series that people will place among the best of them. Forgetting the annoying camera controls and some slightly iffy areas where the visual quality doesn’t quite match up, there isn’t anything not to like. Square Enix made a brilliant game that has been eagerly awaited and HexaDrive’s work bringing it to the PlayStation 4 has been near perfect.

9.5 / 10.0 - Tunic
Mar 16, 2022

TUNIC is perhaps the most fun I’ve had with a game in a long time. The depth within the puzzle design and the overall world has kept my brain whirring away whenever I’m not playing. The collaborative effort of working out the more difficult puzzles has been a highlight I’ll probably not experience again for a long time. This is matched wonderfully by the solid gameplay. While I can’t easily wipe my memory and start the game fresh, what a joy that would be, I can take comfort in the knowledge that TUNIC definitely holds more secrets than I’ve discovered during my time with it and that only makes me want to explore it more!

The Neptunia series of games continues to provide excellent games, this latest entry rising to be one of my favourites in a series I already rank above most others. The roster of characters we all love is present herein, and the action gameplay is a nice change of pace while waiting for the next main series entry. Though I, for one, am eagerly anticipating the next spin-off game, Superdimension Neptune vs Sega Hard Girls.

9.2 / 10.0 - Project X Zone 2
Feb 20, 2016

If you missed out on Project X Zone the first time around, here is a great chance to jump straight in and to see why so many of us are having a blast. You can go back and play the first game if you like, but I feel confident in saying that it can be missed if you’d rather play the most recent release. At least one of your favourite gaming icons will play their part, so why not see what they are up to these days? This is a strategic experience that shouldn’t be missed.

Overall, I love this new BlazBlue. This might be the last one and I could see how much effort Ark System Works has put into it. It’s a wonderful game that is worthy to be this franchise’s last. Any problems I had with the previous games have been fixed in this one and I couldn’t be any happier. I give Central Fiction a 9.1/10. It’s an amazing fighting game that any fan or fighting game player should get if they are looking for well-made fun.

9.1 / 10.0 - J-Stars Victory Vs+
Jun 24, 2015

J-Stars Victory Vs+ is a long-overdue game for the English-speaking world; that said, it is definitely worth the wait. An all-star character roster of fan favourites from Weekly Shonen Jump series, with stages pulled in alongside them makes for a very enjoyable game. There are few complaints to be made of the game, and even those of note don't impede enjoyment of the game much. One can only hope that any future Weekly Shonen Jump fighting games don't take as long to make their way over here.
