I’ve played my fair share of pixel games, but none so deliriously beautiful or grotesque as the horror game Decarnation. But its beauty isn’t just skin deep – the symbolism and gameplay give this indie title nuance that kept me enthralled from curtain rise to swan song.
Final Fantasy XVI’s grander narrative takes wild turns, evokes plenty of heartfelt emotions, and has given me a new cast of characters to fall in love with all over again. It’s a bold direction that Creative Business Unit 3 has taken the franchise, but one well worth the journey.
Needless to say, it’s hard not to recommend this compilation to older players who have nostalgic memories of this era – you definitely won’t find better versions of these games in earlier compilations or on emulators.
Sticky Business is a charming sticker business sim that sees you creating and selling your own sticker designs. If you're a fan of cozy games like Unpacking, you'll love this.
Disney Illusion Island is an unmissable experience that is a melting pot of classic Disney charm, metroidvania-lite gameplay, and witty dialogue.
Its internal parts are crafted with PlayStation 2-era design, brought together in an oven that can push out some of the most delicious Mech combat that I've experienced in a very long time. Its story is engaging enough to keep you pushing forward, and its variety of missions and boss battles can evoke a range of emotions from any player.
Starfield is a good game, like a really good game. It embodies the spirit of Manifest Destiny in a way that no other open-world game has ever come close to approaching. It’s a game that’s meant to be played slowly over the course of months, if not years. And even then, you shouldn’t expect to uncover every little detail.
This is far from a perfect game, but it hits the mark when it comes to its strong points, and it just happens to have a lot of them. Whether you’re a longtime Souls fan or just curious about the crazy idea of a somber take on Pinocchio’s tale, there’s certainly something for you here.
It's all in the name: Super Mario Bros. Wonder is a wonderful experience, filled with the unexpected yet entirely within the player's control.
A complex, satisfying expansion with unexpected and entertaining events everywhere, limited only by a small starting world.
A cinematic journey that takes a beloved series to new heights, Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown is an adventure that fans of the genre shouldn't miss.
WWE 2K24 continues to build upon the incredibly solid and strong foundation of its previous iterations while adding some extra flair to keep returning fans excited about what's coming down the line.
Another Crab's Treasure is a delightful mixture of all the right things; the precise tug-of-war combat you'd find in a game like Sekiro, the verticality and exploration of old-school 3D platformers, and the light-hearted goofiness of classics like Banjo-Kazooie.
Nine Sols is a brutal action title that’s full of heart and a clear vision. Its refined combat system centered around parrying forces players to sharpen their reflexes and deflect their way to victory.
A thrilling multiplayer horror game with enough thrown in the cotton candy machine to spit out plenty of fun, unique gameplay moments, and enticing progression that promises to hook us in further. But the overall experience is only good while the community remains active and lobbies fill up, making it a fight for the team to compel new players to stave off the Klownpocalypse!
Anger Foot is a fantastic action game that's hilarious, frantic, and perfectly paced.
Despite some awkwardness, I really enjoyed my time with Sonic Colors Ultimate. It helps that I never played the original, so the game’s brilliant art direction is washing over me like a weird anime tidal wave.
No More Heroes 3 is everything it should be and what that means to you isn’t going to be mappable to a number. If you’re me and have connected with this godforsaken series from the get go, I can’t stress enough how much this videogame feels like everything good about the passage of time. If you aren’t and are just looking for a cool action game, you might come out more confused than entertained.
When Twelve Minutes is firing on all cylinders it will pull you along with its dark and twisted story. The performances from the cast are memorable, varied, and hold weight. It’s an easy recommendation for fans of strong narrative, point-and-click adventure games, or people who just love indies.
It’s amazing how much fun you can have with a card game like this when the financial barriers we’re used to today vanish. There’s just so much less pressure involved, letting you take it easy and helping losses sting much less. At the same time, there’s a powerful element of nostalgia for players of a certain age that can make Shadowverse: Champion’s Battle feel like a revelation almost. This is a totally solid, compelling digital card game, and perhaps an unintentional nod back to a bygone era.
