F1 2021 is a fantastic entry in that excels it’s predecessors in terms of gameplay, customisation, audio quality and visuals.
Sniper Elite VR is a relatively fun ride I have no desire to jump back onto to anytime soon—but for others, it might just be the VR title that they are looking for.
These games are nearly right at home on a handheld, at least in regards to portable ninja madness.
Cris Tales is a mediocre JRPG-inspired indie that neither captures the strong characters nor the interwoven mechanics that make the genre so appealing.
Monster Hunter Stories 2 has been an incredibly pleasant surprise in all aspects. It’s a great and well thought-out monster battling game with a fun narrative.
I didn’t hate or dislike my time with the Spiritfarer at all. There were moments of beauty in there, and in some cases there were such honest depictions of death that you don’t see in many other games. But there was so much more that I wish the game did.
Red Wings is torn between its arcade ethos and its aim for historical accuracy. Perhaps it should have leaned further in one direction.
If there was one word to describe It Takes Two, it would be charming. The journey me and my partner experienced was at times silly, hilarious, whimsical, tragic, gorgeous and, above all else, always fun. Not since the days of Portal 2 have I been so blown away by how well a co-op focused title committed to the idea of partnership so fully, never once being afraid to present the wackiest ideas it has up its sleeves. It Takes Two may lack a mature narrative to allow the simple tale to really nail an emotional landing, yet what it lacks in storytelling it more than makes up for in gameplay, making for one of my favourite gaming experiences in recent memory and one I am desperate to re-visit as soon as possible.
I went into The Ascent excited for a game to fill a cyberpunk-shaped hole in my heart, but came out feeling deflated with the thought that this was a big missed opportunity. The stunning landscape and excellent soundtrack can’t take away from the game, but the messy gunfights and cumbersome movement paired with accessibility issues makes this a very hard game to recommend.
Eldest Souls is a brutal and unforgiving action game with some interesting lore, gorgeous visuals, and some really good music.
We fight together against those who consider life to just be a game, we look after each other when we need it most. Long as it may be, I don’t regret any second I spent in Shibuya. The world is a big place, but NEO knows it doesn’t end with just you.
The Great Ace Attorney Chronicles is an amazing starting point for newcomers. This latest installment never fails to lose sight of what its fanbase loves. It has a great overarching plot, intriguing cases, and well-written characters. If you haven’t yet, you better get on the case!
Quake Remastered—on the whole—is a damn fine shooter with great gameplay, beautifully touched-up graphics, a hauntingly stunning score by Trent Reznor, and a plethora of content.
For an experience meant to mimic a night spent in front of a rented VHS tape and a bowl of microwaveable popcorn, that’s about all you can ask for.
Sadly, 12 Minutes’ sudden fall into the absurd during the final act leaves a sour taste in my mouth.
Aliens: Fireteam Elite is a solid multiplayer shooter that has a good range of ways to play. I would have liked it to have more missions, but it does have a good amount of replayability, especially if playing online with friends—and there have already been promises of more content on the way.
Crown Trick is an amazing roguelike with a satisfying battle system, a stunning art-style, and intriguing characters.
Mad Streets is an okay physics-driven party game/beat ’em up. Its health bars and mechanics, which gleam more from traditional fighting games, are a step in the right direction.
No More Heroes 3 is a great action game that’s really kinetic and stylish in a way that not many games are nowadays.
Deathloop is Arkane operating at the height of their powers, offering up a simpler remodeling of their past approaches in a stylish, refined package. Upheld by virtuous world design, punchy combat, and a thrilling spin on the current time-loop trend, Deathloop deserves its place in the echelons of first-person-shooter greatness.
