7 / 10.0 - Forspoken
Jan 26, 2023

Forspoken divides players. Some are disappointed others see the big plus. The game takes a lot of time to get going, but you can almost finish this game under 15 hours. But you can easily put in four times as many as you want. I see this as a plus. The player decides how much time he wants to put into it. You haven't combed every corner and taken on every side mission, but you've had a great journey. The game shows at various times what a PS5 title should look like. The highlights feel very cool and the game manages to successfully combine many elements.

7 / 10.0 - Dogfight
Apr 11, 2023

When we talk about Dogfight, the game is 'fine', nothing more than that. You can set the game as hard or easy as desired, so not only avid action-shooter fans will appreciate the game, but also entry-level players. In terms of story, they have packaged it nicely with light-joking texts and visuals.

With RoboCop: Rogue City, does the developer know how to take the game to identical heights as the film series? Unfortunately not. It is clear that they are still on the upward trend. This is a first person shooter where you literally and figuratively go back in time. No understandable class structure, just shooting. It is of course possible to upgrade your gun and choose skills for RoboCop, but the essence is rough shooting and the game does that well. It is a shame that other elements are less well developed, such as the poor AI of the opponents. Major missed opportunities are also the detective work, which now only consists of scanning your environment, and the minimal consequences of your choices during the story.

7 / 10.0 - Sand Land
May 6, 2024

May Akira Toriyama rest in peace. In case you are interested in his work besides Sand Land and Dragon Ball. Despite the manga being hopelessly outdated, Dr. Slump a special insight into his style of humor. Something that happened sometimes in the first few arcs of the original Dragon Ball. His self parody, Neko Majin, is also a lot of fun.

7 / 10.0 - XDefiant
Jun 4, 2024

XDefiant will most likely not become the absolute Call of Duty killer, but there is definitely potential to amass a nice player base. However, they must quickly come up with more balance and make obtaining XP a lot better. We will see what the future of XDefiant will look like, but the game is basically completely free so it is definitely worth trying out for yourself.

Thief Simulator 2 is a funny game that excels in terms of atmosphere and tension. The game also offers quite a few gameplay features and hours of gameplay, as you may not have unlocked everything with about 15 hours of playing. The loading times are short, the adaptive trigger effects when lock picking are funny and some other details have been nicely worked out, such as the red-blue lighting of the touchpad when the police are chasing you. Thief Simulator 2 is an entertaining game for anyone who would like to step into the life of a burglar.

6.6 / 10.0 - Akka Arrh
Mar 7, 2024

The game has been out for other platforms for a while, but gets a PSVR2 option for the Playstation 5 version and this makes a bigger difference than you might originally think. While the 2D version is a lot more difficult to understand and keep an overview, the PSVR2 option makes the game a lot clearer. You are in the middle of your tower and with the two layers you have a lot of depth in the different levels. It doesn't happen often, but this is a game that is really much better in VR. This is a game for Atari and Minter fans and players who are interested in the history of this game. It's great to discover old prototypes and make them accessible to many people. You will quickly notice why this game remained a prototype and did not reach the arcades in the eighties.

6.6 / 10.0 - Men of War II
May 19, 2024

Men of War 2 offers many hours of fun and you can unlock a huge amount of units. The game contains a large number of modes for single-player RTS players and this is a game that you can easily purchase without ever touching the multiplayer. The battles feel impactful and the direct control provides a breath of fresh air compared to many other RTS titles. It is such a shame to see that the interface, always online and the average AI mainly get in the way of the game. But in recent days the game has already received a large number of updates and I hope that the developer will continue to support the game and that the game can last another ten years without any problems.

6.5 / 10.0 - REMEDIUM: Sentinels
Jul 17, 2023

All in all, I had fun with this game. The first hours are quite addictive and you actually want to constantly try to improve your previous round. Collecting in-game scrap is too slow and you are only really rewarded when you manage to complete a level. So if you get stuck at a certain point, you will hang around in the same boat for quite a while, so that at some point you will start to lose motivation. However, the challenge is not so great that it becomes demotivating and you don't get any further. In addition, after about 5 hours you have seen the gameplay mechanics, however simplistic they may be. It is therefore a wonder that people manage to keep you busy for such a long time with just one button in terms of basic control.

6.5 / 10.0 - Crash Team Rumble
Jun 30, 2023

Bright colors and a cartoonish style give it the typical Crash atmosphere and the music also makes you very happy. But this is not enough to keep players interested for a long time. Developer Toys for Bob is currently working on the first season of the game and that will bring more content.

6.5 / 10.0 - Immortals of Aveum
Aug 25, 2023

Fortunately, the combat is fun enough to keep the whole story interesting, but for the rest it is not all. Outside of the Sigils, the loot isn't interesting with just increasing some percentages. The graphics are fine, but you can expect a lot more from a game that uses the Unreal 5 Engine.

The concept may be clear; That's too simple for words. Graphically and audio-wise, the game doesn't really know which direction it wants to go. Objects are sharp, yet angular. Bars, for example, is round, but you still see straight shapes, so it does not look round. Floors look blurry, but still quite superficial. Light should provide extra details, but the color transitions do not. The same can also be said in terms of audio. You hear sounds, but what is it actually? Music? Or simply some sound effects? The game lacks a bit of direction on every level. The depth could also have been better. This platformer just doesn't cut it in that regard. It is actually a great game offline and online, with which you can get quite a few hours of entertainment. However, it never really becomes very interesting, so the game does not score much more than adequate.

After about 7 hours of playing you will have reached the end of the game and actually after about 2 hours you will notice that the monotony and flat gameplay starts to seem quite the same. The level design is quite nice here and there, but you are actually constantly jumping, dashing and shooting. The latter in particular starts to get really annoying at a certain point. Do not get me wrong; The Smurfs 2 is certainly not a bad game, and may be quite challenging for real young people to master, but otherwise it plays well and doesn't do anything terribly wrong.

The expansion is therefore not the right start for a new player. As a new player, it is best to just start with the basic game. This is an expansion aimed at players who have completed the basic game completely. This way you can take all your characters with you and it feels less like you're getting a generic start. You understand how all the systems work and the main story of Tales of Arise is wonderfully epic. Beyond the Dawn has little added value, except to extend the playing time a little more.

6.5 / 10.0 - Raccoo Venture
Dec 22, 2023

The upbeat music, colorful levels, and cute characters can give players the wrong impression of what they're in for. The game contains a large number of areas, levels and items to collect and you will have to collect them all to unlock all the levels. Unfortunately there is a big but. The game quickly becomes frustratingly difficult and you regularly have to replay large parts of the levels to find all the collectibles. The game seems to focus on the target group that grew up with these Nintendo 64 and Playstation 1 platformers. Raccoo Venture is really not child's play and that is a missed opportunity.

6.5 / 10.0 - Dead Man's Diary
Jan 25, 2024

Dead Man's Diary is a game that is well put together in concept and has the potential to be a great title. In terms of atmosphere, it works and everything feels oppressive, partly because you are often threatened by enemies, but practically never encounter them in the first hours. The bombastic sounds contribute to this. For example, the bear that is constantly on your heels, but you will hardly ever see, regularly causes you to break out in a sweat. The scary moments occur regularly, especially in the beginning. This is not a game like Fallout, where you can take out your arsenal and have a blast. Action is virtually non-existent. The puzzles, including fixing the electricity panels, lock picking and cracking safes, are fun and sometimes quite deep in that regard. However, the game also has its serious flaws, such as the lack of variation in the environments and certain components that are less developed, including the voice casting, overly complex controls (the use of R1 when switching inventory is unnecessarily cumbersome) and the changing graphics. Dead Man's Diary contains an excellent game, but unfortunately it is not quite that in the end. However, give it a chance, and you will be several hours and chapters further, with the necessary excitement!

The Top Racer Collection is a neat collection of the first three Top Racer games and an addition of a new game. It preserves the original games quite well and includes a wonderful soundtrack. The new menus fit less with the style of the games, but the gameplay is still fun to pick up. The improvements are minimal, but with the addition of online multiplayer this makes the game more future-proof. The collection is two tens of euros and that feels quite pricey, but if you come across the game in a sale then I would definitely give this collection a chance.

6.5 / 10.0 - Bloodhound
Jul 1, 2024

In terms of concept, Bloodhound is a game that we could indeed expect to see as standard around the 90s. If the game had been released then, it still wouldn't be a Quake or Unreal beater. The constant racing from one room to another and the constant supply of meat ensures that you have seen enough after an hour. The light RPG possibilities with the abilities and the reasonable variety of weapons, which develop a little more variety, do not make you want to play the game again. It is nice that keys have been added to the level design, with which you have to unlock successive rooms and that some bosses appear every now and then. However, Bloodhound is ultimately nothing more than a mindless dime a dozen shooter. If you can appreciate that, then you will be fine with this.

6.3 / 10.0 - Varney Lake
Apr 29, 2023

After about 2 hours when the credits come, you can only really judge whether Varney Lake has been worth it and the 10 Euro rolls out of your pocket or whether you give a lot for that money in return. As far as I'm concerned, the story is a lot more accessible and interesting than that of Mothmen and I think casual players will find this game better than its predecessor. Although there are references, you do not necessarily have to have played the first part. However, there are fewer options that really influence the story.

6.2 / 10.0 - Taito Milestones 2
Sep 9, 2023

The biggest drawback is the price tag of fourteen euros. Ten games seems quite a lot at first, but they are still arcade games. These are games that are therefore often very difficult or very short. For this price you do not get the best experience, mainly due to the different resolutions and the fact that they are less suitable for handhelds. You will encounter a lot of black bars and they are games that have not been improved for the platform. It is a collection that is interesting if you are sure that there are several games that you would like to spend some more time on. Taito Milestones 2 is a collection that is technically well put together, bundles various genres and provides access to several classics for the enthusiast who knows them.
