ZTGD's Reviews

The Drivatar system is a great idea that again needs some tweaks, and the lack of tracks disappoints, but this is still a solid launch title to showcase Microsoft's shiny new black box.

6 / 10.0 - LocoCycle
Dec 5, 2013

I wanted to love LocoCycle, but in the end, I just liked it. It has moments where I had a lot of fun with it, and others where I was forcing myself to play another level. This is probably my least favorite TP game to date, and that is depressing.

7.8 / 10.0 - Doki-Doki Universe
Dec 9, 2013

Originally, I wasn't too thrilled with the game, but after giving it some time and exploring multiple planets, I can see the appeal and I actually enjoyed most of what I played. Just don't expect much action out of the experience and you'll be fine.

6.8 / 10.0 - Tiny Brains

[I]f you have some friends over or some online buddies that have the game and want to have a decent time solving puzzles while trying not to kill one another, Tiny Brains offers some decent fun.

2.5 / 10.0 - Fighter Within
Dec 10, 2013

I wanted to love the second offering from Ubisoft of a Kinect fighting game, but this simply falls flat on every level. If you own an Xbox One, do not go anywhere near this game.

6.6 / 10.0 - Ryse: Son of Rome
Dec 11, 2013

Ryse: Son of Rome was one of the games I was looking forward to for the launch of the Xbox One, and I was a bit disappointed. While the visuals and soundtrack helped in getting me through the game, the repetitive combat and a "been there done that" story made it hard for me to get into it.

8 / 10.0 - Peggle 2
Dec 15, 2013

Peggle 2 is a great follow-up to the addiction we all have. I am happy to once again play in short bursts, especially on Xbox One where I can do it while other games are downloading or installing. It isn't going to set the world on fire, or change the series. It is Peggle, and if you want more Peggle, you will get exactly that here. For the price it is impossible to complain. Plus you just feel all warm and fuzzy while playing it.

It may not be the best episode of The Walking Dead, but it still has some good moments in it. Hopefully the glitches will be worked on and the setups established will have some payoffs. If you're a fan of The Walking Dead and enjoyed what you played of the first season, chances are you need to pick this episode up. Just keep in mind; it may not be as polished as the previous outings.

The crisper visuals and weekly challenges are nice, but if you already own it elsewhere, there is zero reason to upgrade to the next generation of Angry Birds.

3.5 / 10.0 - NBA Live 14
Dec 19, 2013

NBA Live 14 is a hot mess. There is simply no other way to describe it. I wanted to derive some enjoyment from the game, hell I was a fan of NBA Inside Drive back in the days of the original Xbox, but this is simply broken on so many levels.

Max: The Curse of Brotherhood is a solid puzzle/platformer that was just what I needed right now. It was definitely a nice palette cleanser from some of the holiday shooting and action, plus it is only $15, which is a fantastic price for what you get. If you have an Xbox One and are looking for a novel title to tie you over, I definitely recommend giving Max a shot.

6.8 / 10.0 - flOw
Dec 23, 2013

It may not be a game for everyone, and granted it is a little short, but for $5.99 the experience of flOw is a rather relaxing one that people who enjoy a more art style game with minimalist controls may want to look into it. It has a little trouble with the controls, but it's still a rather enjoyable ride.

As a piece of RPG history, it holds up reasonably well, and gives players another opportunity to enjoy this deep game. However, those experiencing it for the first time will be well served to do some research before diving in.

7 / 10.0 - Escape Plan
Jan 7, 2014

While it didn't blow my mind or redefine just exactly what puzzle games meant to me, it was solid, albeit unspectacular puzzle experience that I'm sure the fans of the genre will enjoy.

It may be a somewhat short experience, but there's no denying the fact that the entire time was full of high adrenaline action. The combat is simple and satisfying, and the presentation is top notch.

9.5 / 10.0 - ZEN Pinball 2
Jan 15, 2014

If you enjoy pinball in any shape or form, Zen Pinball 2 is a must download. Even casual fans should at least download the hub and try out some of the tables, and since it comes with one free, there really is no reason not to give it a try. Who knows? You may find yourself addicted to it as much as I am. Now if you'll excuse me, I have a friend's score to beat.

With an amazing amount of possibilities open to you, most of which I have not mentioned here, no two play throughs are the same. Yes you will get frustrated and yes, your road will be a long and bizarre one, but ultimately it will be a journey of exploration, wonder and the more than occasional scare.

6.9 / 10.0 - The Banner Saga
Jan 22, 2014

It grew on me, which I admit is both contradictory and paradoxical in a way, given that I have criticized the game for its redundant features, tediousness and lack of variety. The visuals are certainly compelling and the animation is the most captivating aspect of the game. In the end though, this says as much about the content as anything else. The presentation promises much and is highly polished but it lies at the surface, working to conceal the more problematic aspects of the actual game itself.

9.5 / 10.0 - Bravely Default
Jan 28, 2014

Bravely Default stands currently as my first big game of the year contender and while there are a few minor missteps along the way, it’s still a giant leap forward for what a traditional JRPG should be in the modern age.
