Babylon's Fall is the latest example of a decent core concept being flagrantly corrupted by the live-service template, and whose prospects for improvement dwindle with each passing day.

BABYLON'S FALL has plenty of quality game design in it, with a good length main campaign and even side content on launch, with more already added, and even more coming for free. Whether the price is worth it is up to you; play the demo and decide for yourself.

I can't shake the feeling that this is simply a hastily paid title that doesn't even reach the qualities of Platinum Games in the near future. We recommend Babylon’s Fall for 3 points out of 10. But if there are no drastic changes, then we really have a candidate for the worst game of the year.

I hate to be this negative and scolding in this review, but in its current state, Babylon's Fall should not exist, especially not with such a hefty price tag. It's a live service game that's hell-bent on monetizing everything, but it's uninterested in being engaging, rewarding, or nice to look at. There are plenty of glimpses of the familiar Platinum Games talent involved, teasing the game that could have been, but it ultimately fails to make an effort except for microtransactions. Even hardcore fans of the genre or Platinum Games should likely avoid this title.

Babylon's Fall is a soulless product with a repetitive combat that is miles away from the titles that PlatinumGames are known for, misguided visual style and a metric ton of microtransactions.

To put it mildly, Platinum Games’ very first live service outing falls short in just about every area.

For what it’s worth, Babylon’s Fall is not the worst AAA game to ever release... it runs properly, doesn’t have any major glitches, and is functional without having to spend any extra cash. It’s just a very boring, uninteresting game that doesn’t work or engage without such a substantial time commitment that I don’t think it would be worthwhile to even the most diehard of Platinum Games’ fans.

Now the only question left is whether Platinum Games and Square Enix have the fortitude to recover? I hope they do, but once players label a game as average (or worse), it can be an insurmountable task to change their minds.

All in all, while Babylon's Fall had several good ideas and had a lot of potential, it shot itself in the foot with its intrusive live service model and its painfully obvious lack of polish, making it that much harder to recommend to anyone, especially at the ludicrous price of $60.

Babylon's Fall is a game that impresses by the fact that nothing in it works as it should. It's a boring title and marked by a series of problems. It ends up standing out as one of the worst games in a year full of great releases.

Babylon’s Fall seems like it needed a lot more development time. The core combat feels stiffer than my left wrist, which is currently recovering from a broken bone. Combining that with lackluster graphics and limited multiplayer options would be bad enough, but locking out key features of the game behind ten or so hours of gameplay makes Babylon’s Fall a very tough sell. Stacking microtransactions on top of it all leaves a nasty aftertaste that Platinum Games is going to have to wash out for a long time to come.

Babylon’s Fall is not an awful game, its just not a very good one and while I would never tell anyone what to do with their money, I will strongly suggest you avoid this one as it’s fate will surely be the same as the tower for which its named.

The final product that is Babylon's Fall gives the impression that the developers gave up halfway. You know when you start something, see that the idea is impractical, silly or just plain boring to go ahead with, and then you don't care, launching it without any will? That's the impression left by the game.

An overpriced game with a solid combat system that's buried under a mountain of banality and monetisation.

Babylon's Fall is a baffling game that lacks any distinct vision, both in terms of gameplay and artistic design.

Babylon's Fall flat out needed more time. The graphics make the experience just horrible at times, with the filter even giving me headaches. The combat can be enjoyable, though there is a grind to it, it's something I still enjoy along with the music. Beyond that however, there are still just too many aspects of this game that can make your time with it headache-inducing more often than not.

It’s pretty ironic that for a game that tests so much of your patience, our rating asks you to wait some more. That’s because, given the chance, there is some semblance of fun to be had with Babylon’s Fall, but getting to that point is an extreme test of willpower that not many will be able to overcome, especially given its $60 price point. There are some interesting ideas here, especially with its class-less and weapon-based systems, but a lot of conflicting mechanics muddle the whole product. Each of these systems taken on its own sounds solid, but they come together to form an incoherent game that requires a lot more effort from its players.

Platinum Games released its worst game in history and it is surprising that Square Enix simply did not delete the game. It's ugly and boring, and the servers are already empty.

Babylon's Fall could be one of the worst titles of 2022, even though it had the potential to be something good, all of that potential was lost in a bad design, very outdated graphics, a very bad story, and a cheap attempt to make money in a tired gaas concept.

Given the nature of live service titles it's possible that Babylon's Fall could see a phoenix-style resurrection with some rebalancing, but somehow, we doubt it. Hopefully this absolute misfire doesn't signal a profound change in direction for Platinum Games; this title had a troubled conception and it shows, but rather than iterate on things, we'd rather see a return to single player dominance. There's just nothing about Babylon's Fall that warrants going back to the drawing board. Except for that fantastic boss battle in which you race the Batmobile against those jorts-clad pink elephants. Oh wait, that was just a dream we had when the game put us to sleep.
