An unexpectedly deep strategy game hidden under a simpler appearance. An enjoyable deep dive in humanity's greatest conflict.

Headquarters World War 2 is a seemingly poor strategy game, which opens up to beautiful gameplay as soon as you start a new game. A title to try if you love games similar to XCOM.

The mechanics and interface of Headquarters: World War II are reminiscent of old wargames from the 2000s, such as Battle Academy, while the visual spectacle and wide environmental destructibility are reminiscent of contemporary RTS approaches. This combination ensures an addictive gaming experience that is perfect for lovers of historical strategy games. Both on the technical and playful front there are some edges, yet the formula of Starni Games is able to satisfy those looking for a challenge set during the Second World War.

Although Headquarters: World War II's premise is far from unique, the same thankfully can't be said for its gameplay, which is both superbly enjoyable and a welcome departure from the tried-and-not-always-true likes of Company of Heroes.
