There's no way around it; Respawn Entertainment has had a great year. After a surprise launch of Apex Legends caught fire among battle royale fans earlier this year, they followed that up with another critical hit in Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order just weeks ago. Now their previous and similarly beloved sequel Titanfall 2 will be given out as one of the complimentary games for PlayStation Plus subscribers for December 2019. Joining the first-person shooter next month is Monster Energy Supercross - The Official Videogame.

Titanfall 2 launched in October 2016 to rave reviews. It boasts a Strong 87 OpenCritic score after 139 reviews with a 95% recommendation rating. Today, many fans anxiously await news of a new sequel, and they just may get it given the Midas touch the folks at Respawn have lately. EA is perhaps more willing to give them some freedom after they've saved the Star Wars game license, which the publisher had been fumbling for years, and they did it on Unreal Engine, while EA typically mandates developers use their in-house Frostbite engine. Respawn has the sort of pull few in the industry do right now.

Monster Energy Supercross didn't fare nearly as well among critics when it launched in 2018. Today it has an OpenCritic score of 66 after 44 reviews, with only 25% of them recommending it for play. Its recent sequel did considerably better, however, with a score of 73 here on OpenCritic. Motocross racing is a bit of a niche genre anyway, so hopefully fans of the sport get some enjoyment out of their second complimentary game coming in December.

We haven't yet heard about Xbox's Games with Gold for December 2019, but as the month is nearly over and a holiday weekend looms nearer, don't be surprised if they make their announcement today too, which will include two Xbox One games and two backward compatible games, as always.
