All in all, Dungeons & Degenerate Gamblers surprised me quite a bit. While I’ve been a fan of other rogue-like games, such as Dead Cells and The Rogue: Prince of Persia, I didn’t expect this silly little deck builder to quickly climb the ladder of my favorites. There are some rough patches through and through, but they’re charming in a way.
If XD Entertainment is able to stay the course and maintain a fine balance between introducing powerful characters and giving just enough to the casual players to keep up with PvE content, I can see Sword of Convallaria getting a permanent place in my gacha game rotation.
Paper Trail is a pretty game that, while not too difficult, is definitely worth checking out for fans of puzzle games.
We often talk about the limitations of the worn-down AAA model of game development and publishing, but because of financial woes and external pressure, independent games can be even more restrained by the unwritten rules of established genres and the whims of the market. Like its title suggests, Against the Storm is all about rebelling against the tide and making the impossible possible out there.
Despite the often confusing world design and the anxiety-inducing timer, every other aspect of the game was strong enough that those complaints became mere blemishes on an otherwise fantastic experience. Elevated by tight controls, some excellent writing, and an art style that only becomes stronger the more you look at it, A Highland Song is such a unique and touching experience that I can’t help but recommend it. Get in, indeed.
