2HBoricua The Last of Us Part II Remastered Review

This game is amazing, the technical mastery they have to create a game that looks this good and runs as smooth as it does is insane. The combat feels so good to play, it’s such an improvement over the first game, and that game already had great combat. The animations are incredible and everything just feels seamless when you are performing them. I loved the story despite how long it was, they actually feel a full spectrum of emotions playing this game. That is truly rare for me, generally I am a gameplay driven gamer because I think most have poor writing and don’t create characters that feel real or that I care about. The fact that this game was able to make me like Abby after I spent the first 2/3 of the game hating her is a testament to what this team were able to accomplish. The game does a great job showing the spectrum of humanity and how we are capable being terribly selfish and lovingly sweet based on our situation at the moment. It builds a world where the survival of yourself and those you care about it the driving force behind every choice you make. I know of a lot of people think this universe is too dark, but I think it provides a fairly accurate portrayal of what life is like for many people who don’t have the privilege of growing up in a safe environment. Anyway, the visuals are so seamless that it’s hard to tell when you have transitioned from gameplay to cutscene and vice versa. The rogue-like mode that they added is a ton of fun as well, really showcasing the combat and movement tech without any of the story elements taking the focus. Another thing of note, when I played the first Last of Us game I reached a point where I was ready for the game to over and it went a few hours past that point. That was mostly because I felt like combat took a long time since it was very difficult to do anything other than stealth and still have resources leftover, and every encounter felt like it went the same way. I just wanted to watch cutscenes and finish the story basically. The first game is considerably shorter than this game, but I never felt like that playing this game. There was so much more variation in combat encounters and how I could tackle them, it was fun the full way through. This game is a masterpiece.
