64hoops Tiny Tina's Wonderlands Review

I think the repetitive offering of Borderlands is starting to wear out on me. There's nothing egregiously wrong with this game (Except for the fact that online has been broken since it released ig), but for a first person shooter with a D&D theme, it feels awfully bland, especially with its gameplay and level design. Graphics are good, the gunplay is great as usual, I even like the new classes and additions of melee weapons and spell casting. However, I think i'm starting to realize what made Borderlands 2 such a special game: It was the story, its characters, and the fun missions. 99% of the main and side missions in this game are "Go into an area and kill all the bad guys, then move to the next area". I understand that's the majority of borderlands in a nutshell, but in this one it feels like the missions just lost their magic. There's no real variety in the missions you are doing, they all feel the same. Even if one side mission has one different story than the other, the mission design feels exactly the same. And speaking of the story, there's no investment into it. It's a "I'm not offended by the writing, but I don't care about it" category. Will Arnett's Dragon Lord is really the only stand out character, yet he really doesn't reach the levels of Handsome Jack. Overall, it's fine enough I guess, but I really stopped having fun about 12 hours in, especially when I had to go grind a bunch of side quests to reach a recommended level to enter the next world. Try it out for $10 and probably stop playing it halfway through. One more note: The overworld travel design is a pretty cool idea, especially when you get to see how the D&D board is designed on a zoomed out scale, but visuals aside it doesn't offer much to the game.
