64hoops Hogwarts Legacy Review

Jun 20, 2026
For the first actual legit non-movie Harry Potter game, this was an amazing first start. There’s so much content in here that you can really dump 100+ hours in this, and you wouldn’t get bored. The variety of activities, quests, and locations in and outside of Hogwarts is mind blowing. The combat is also done really well! I think they did as best as they could to create a spell combat system that’s simple, but gives you a lot of variety in spells to use against enemies (And for puzzles). Last positive to mention…. Portkey made this game FEEL like you’re in Hogwarts. The art design and graphics are stunning, the first couple hours of the game were spent just walking around the castle, it truly feels magical location you visit, even outside of Hogwarts. But, some things stand out that they could definitely improve upon: 1. The main story was very hit or miss. While the actual main quest gameplay is fun, the actual story feels boring and took forever to get going. I thought the general plot was good, but I feel like there were too many moments where I was super bored during cutscenes or just rolling my eyes. I felt like this during some side quests too, but the main quests are the focus of my criticism. 2. The next gen version definitely needed some post launch patches in the last third of the game (playing on series X). There were tons of frame drops, character movement glitches, and weird color glitches where the side of my tv was spamming a bunch of colors during cutscenes? Just weird stuff. It’s definitely playable and 70% of the game is fine, but that last 30% was a weird experience lol. 3. No quidditch. A complete miss on their part to try and resell Quidditch on a separate live service game. Which resulted in there only being time trials for broom flying, which are far and few between. 4. I think the student/class aspect was lacking. It always felt like my schooling in the game was an annoyance rather than making it feel fun. I’m trying to save the world while I have professors nagging me to complete my assignments….. like Jesus lol. Overall, I totally recommend and I can’t wait for the second game to come out. If they learn from their shortcomings and really focus on these for the sequel, Hogwarts Legacy 2 might sell more copies than the first game!
