64hoops Sniper Elite: Resistance Review
Feb 6, 2025
This is my first Sniper Elite game I've played through, and it was just fine. Outside of the environmental graphics and the shooting mechanics, there's not much that really stands out with this game from better franchises (Hitman, Dishonored, etc). And honestly, some of it feels lazy and rushed.
It just has a lack of variety that I noticed the farther I was getting into the campaign. Most of the missions include either a. Plant some satchel charges. b. Assassinate a target. c. Flip a switch that does something. It got really repetitive by the end, and thankfully the campaign is decently short
The variety in equipment at your disposal does give it some variety in approaching enemies, some of them work better than others (The bottle throwing felt super inconsistent). There's a skill tree as well to give you new abilities, but they don't feel impactful unfortunately, and I even forgot I had one in the last mission.
What's worse is the story was so shallow. Out of the 10-11ish cutscenes in the campaign, 8 of them were just pictures/slides with a voiceover, and when we did get an actual cutscene, the characters/facial details looked out of the 360 era, so disappointing.
So even though there are characters you interact with in the 3 actual cutscenes you watch (Because you're supposed to be working with people from the French Resistance), you never see them outside of those, so the whole story feels like it's carried by the fact it's in a WW2 setting and you're fighting bad guys. I forgot I was even working with the resistance until the final mission!
Lastly, going back to the core gameplay mechanics, while the shooting is fun and enjoyable, the actual movement system feels super clunky and inconsistent. I always couldn't tell which barrier I could vault over and which ones I was restricted, which made tight firefights moments frustrating, as I didn't feel fully in control of my character.
I didn't play the multiplayer, not worth it to download Denuvo for it.
Overall, it's not the worst thing i've ever played, but it feels bland, rushed and was a disappointment. Pick this up when it's on sale for $5 or play it on gamepass.
