64hoops Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater Review

Mar 1, 2026
I wasn’t a huge fan of this, and might’ve been due to my high expectations going into it. I was expecting a phantom pain like experience, but I was mistaken to expect that. This has a lot of really cool ideas incorporating survival mechanics into an action adventure game, but I found the combat to be too linear and stiff. There were so many tools given to me, but I never found a reason to use most of them, far too often I’m just using my trusty tranq gun or pistol, as nothing else seemed to matter. Maybe the reason is because the game was too easy (I finished the game on normal), especially the boss fights. Every single boss battle feels like there’s a weakness you can exploit, and once you discover it the fight is a breeze. The game’s pacing is also pretty weird. The first hour of the game feels super sluggish and takes forever to get through…. then the middle chunk goes really fast (All the Cobras are gone before you know it) and then the final third just takes FOREVER to get through, and most of that final third isn’t even gameplay, it’s cutscenes! Speaking of cutscenes, the story is definitely a lot more wacky than I was expecting. It’s not bad, but this definitely has an anime storytelling formula, which includes a lot of weird stuff you would expect from any anime out there. I think if the cutscenes were cut down by about 25%, I would’ve been sucked a lot more into the story. But instead it feels like it’s dragging (Like some anime’s out there). Overall, I know I’m making it sound like this game is bad, but it just feels like there’s a modern masterpiece that could’ve been made if Konami did more than just slap some modern graphics on it and call it a day (Which is sad because this game does look great!). The gameplay and story are just fine, definitely not worth full price. $30 at best in my opinion.
