AaronElWhite Sea of Stars Review

Soooooooo close to a masterpiece. The story leaves a little bit to be desired. The world looks and feels interesting, but the villain's motives and the explanation for why there is turmoil just didn't really make a lot of sense to me. Every other aspect of this is GOTY-worthy stuff. The combat is among the best I've ever played - using the active timing mechanism and lock-breaking to keep you engaged. In forty hours I never once felt over or under powered, so the leveling method and pace was also perfect. Characters themselves are neat with decent personalities, bosses are unique and exciting, and the game is filled with fun little puzzles and a few different unlocked traversal mechanisms. I did get annoyed with the backtracking until an almost endgame ability solves that problem, but aside from that and my issues with the story I had an almost flawless experience. And of course the Chrono Trigger inspired pixel art and musical score are tremendous. Love, love, love and can't wait to go for the true ending and play whatever DLC Sabotage Studios comes up with.
