AshTheFallen Monster Hunter Wilds Review
Mar 30, 2025
For all its faults, Monster Hunter Wilds has been one of the best gaming experiences I've had in recent years. Cons first:
The story is bad, some of the characters are just flat out annoying. The pacing for low rank which is the main campaign is not good, the story progresses too fast, with heavy exposicions on the world, while failing to convay a proper sense of time progression. By the end, I had no idea how long it took for the story stuff to happen in the world it could have been hours, days, weeks or months, the game fails to show any progression in time as it just jumps from event to exposicion to event. This was my first monster hunter so I can't comment on the difficulty of previous games but most monster feel easy. They have interesting mechanics and moves but your damage output is so high without any specific builds and Seikret makes dangerous situations much easier than they normally would be that you can just button smash your way into most hunts.
Pros: The gameplay itself is amazing. It feels so responsive, methodical, and overall just fun! It is fast paced which I appreciate because I can pick up the game do a couple hunts and then put it aside. The skill ceiling of the games and different weapons is high which allows you to always progress towards something and improve. The monster designs, weapons, armor, and overall design is 10/10 monsters feel like real animals and not just a big thing that you have to hit. Playing with others is also easy and fun, although it takes a while for you to learn how to actually use the system.
