BrightFlame Robotherapy Review

Jun 3, 2025
A mostly linear visual novel that takes about an hour and a half to read. It tackles the important topic of depression and recovery, but does so in a heavy-handed way. There's a main character who needs help, there's Back as the voice of reason, and there are other characters who basically just serve to move the plot forward about how the main character needs help. They all deliver fairly obvious ideas and make decent jokes throughout the hour of gameplay - and that's it. The game doesn't really convey what depression feels like or how to recover from it. Everything is oversimplified. Which is a shame. That said, if you know nothing about psychotherapy, it works as a picture book about basic techniques for, well, having important conversations with yourself. 4 out of 10
