Captaincool Metaphor: ReFantazio Review

I am certainly not an Atlus enjoyer so take my review with a grain of salt. I did enjoy this game immensely more than the multiple times I tried to engage with Persona games. I thought the world and overall art direction were excellent. The combat is ok turn-based combat but really hinges on being able to initiate the combat on your terms with a surprise opening, when you achieve this, you barely get hit, if you don't, you could be in serious trouble of wiping. The story beats you over the head with its obvious themes, I still enjoyed almost all of the characters with one key exception, the protagonist. He basically brings nothing to the story or even works well with the rest of the cast, the review I saw that said the dialogue options are either "I love ice cream!" or "I really like ice cream!" nailed it perfectly.
