CasaRomeo Tales of the Shire: A The Lord of the Rings Game Review
Aug 1, 2025
Honestly, I can’t really recommend this game in its current state, though I do hope the developers keep supporting it and add more content. Right now, it feels pretty barebones. The core gameplay revolves around fishing, gardening, and cooking, but none of these systems have much depth they’re just really basic. You basically garden and fish to get ingredients so you can cook food to host parties with some of the village residents, and that’s about it. Sure, you can decorate your house, but that shouldn’t be the highlight of a game, and even the decorating is just okay. The quests from villagers are incredibly simple too.
One of my biggest frustrations is the optimization. The game looks simple enough that it should run smoothly on almost anything, but it doesn’t it runs poorly, which is really disappointing. Also, the character creator feels super limited. Most of the options cater to making female Hobbits.
Overall, I’d say wait for a sale if you’re interested. There’s definitely a good foundation here, but the game clearly missed the mark at launch. I genuinely feel it would have benefited from releasing in Early Access so the devs could build it out more with community feedback. Also, it’s worth mentioning that the game feels sanitized almost like it’s been through a consultancy firm’s filter losing some of the depth and charm you might expect from a Lord of the Rings title. Its just feels off.
