cournz Esoteric Ebb Review

Excellent game that wears its Disco Elysium inspiration like a badge of honor. In some ways, I actually prefer this game to Disco, which sounds like sacrilege. Where Disco's humor is dry and the writing and outlook generally cynical (in a good way), there are legitimate laugh-out-loud moments in Esoteric Ebb, and a thread of hope and optimism in its worldview. The combat mechanic in this game is an absolute highlight. Done all through text, you're left wondering after every selection if you've made the right move or not, and then the dice fall where they fall. Really enjoyable experience. This game will be on my 2026 end of the year list no doubt. It might even be at the top. 5 / 5
