When it comes to re-editing an Old Gen game, it's natural to fear a lazy porting using better resolution as the only selling point. Rockstar clearly didn't take players for pigeons by relying on the popularity of Grand Theft Auto V. In addition to an in-depth reworked production, the publisher reinvents his series by adding a convincing subjective view. It was only a few weeks ago impossible to imagine what Rockstar was planning. A great game.

428 : Shibuya Scramble is clearly a game worthy of its Japanese reputation. Spike Chunsoft's Visual Novel tells a riveting story and makes a really clever use of its multiple bad endings system. The game gives you a tour of the real Shibuya and introduces you to a cast of characters that grows on you very fast. It grows on you so much in fact, that once the game ends, you're sad that you'll never see them again.

As the Yakuza franchise is still trying to become a household franchise in the West, the Ryu Ga Gotoku Studio decided to flip the switch and create a turn-based RPG. The result of that experiment, Yakuza: Like a Dragon, is a resounding success. The "dynamic RPG" gameplay fits the Yakuza universe and tropes like a glove and its mechanics are surprisingly deep. And the fact that the game's new characters are lovable doesn't hurt. The turn-based gameplay will probably put off some gamers but Yakuza: Like a Dragon truly deserves a shot. The Ryu Ga Gotoku Studio made the JRPG genre proud.

Yakuza 6: The Song of Life is one of, if not the, most touching games in the long running series. It offers a fitting end to Kazuma Kiryu's story and gives the series a change of pace (Onomichi and its people are great). It's just too bad that SEGA didn't go the remaster route (on Xbox Series X|S) as the game feels a bit weird running at 30 fps in 2021.

9 / 10 - Lost Judgment
Sep 16, 2021

Judgment was already very good. Lost Judgment is much better. It's as simple as that. The Ryu Ga Gotoku Studio has built a titanic adventure on the already very solid pillars of the first episode. Basically, the game features a captivating main story that shows Japan like few games have done. In parallel to this, he unfolds a second plot at least as dense that really plunges into a Japanese high school. And on top of that, the title has the luxury of offering dozens of quests and side business. All helped by improvements to the gameplay and sprinkled with new mini-games. Rumors claim that Lost Judgment could be the last episode of the series because of disagreements between SEGA and Takuya Kimura's agency.

South Park : The Stick of Truth is by far the best South Park game ever made and one of the funniest video games ever. Gamers who enjoy a good laugh owe it to themselves to play this game. And the fact the Switch allows players to take the game everywhere with them make things even better.

Even if it isn't as chocking as The Stick of Truth was, South Park: The Fractured But Whole offers a delightful experience for South Park fans. Faithful to the source material, this sequel is both funny, well written and fun to play as the super hero setting fits the gameplay well. Fans of Trey Parker and Matt Stone's work should really give this game a shot.

8 / 10 - Yakuza 0
Jul 26, 2018

Yakuza 0 is one the best Yakuza games and it's a game that PC gamers should not miss. Fun and overflowing with content, Yakuza 0 allows players to discover Tokyo and Osaka's red light districts as they were during Japan's "bubble economy" years. SEGA Europe did a great job on this PC port as the game has never looked so good.

Puyo Puyo Tetris is a surprisingly convincing mix of two of gaming's oldest Puzzle Game franchises. The fact that the game lets players chose between Tetris, Puyo Puyo or a (well done) mix of the two makes for a fun experience. It must also be said that Puyo Puyo Tetris is best enjoyed on the Switch. The console's local multiplayer capabilities are clearly one of the game's strong suits.

Having the Mario and Rabbids universes meet in a Tactical RPG could seem like a risky bet. But it works. Mario + Raving Rabbids Kingdom Battle is both a convincing crossover and a convincing Tactical RPG that fits perfectly on the Switch. And the local coop mode is just the icing on the cake.

8 / 10 - Yakuza Kiwami
Aug 27, 2017

Yakuza Kiwami is a perfect example of a remake done right. The news graphics and added content give longtime fans of the series more than enough reasons to dive right back in Kamurocho's seedy underworld. And for new fans and curious gamers, Yakuza Kiwami is the perfect way to discover Kazuma Kiryu's first misadventures.

Yakuza Kiwami 2 is clearly the update Yakuza 2 deserved. The very talented people over at Ryu Ga Gotoku Studios recreated the riveting Yakuza 2 plot while adding new side quests and activities. Even if a couple of elements from the original game are now missing, Kiwami 2 has more than enough content to keep players glued to their scree to their screens. It must also be noted that the Dragon Engine looks and runs better than it did in Yakuza 6. All in all, Kiwami 2 another great Yakuza game that fans of the series should not miss.

8 / 10 - Shenmue 1 & 2
Aug 20, 2018

Shenmue I & II gives players the opportunity to experience slightly updated versions of two of the all-time greatest games. Even though we would have loved for Shenmue I and II to get real remakes, both games still have a lot to offer to 2018 gamers. Very few titles can claim to be as immersive as Shenmue I and II and it's great to be able to dive into its universe once more. What could have been if the port hadn't been so lazy.

Fire Pro Wrestling World offers a truly great alternative to the WWE 2K games. With its deep gameplay mechanics, its Visual Novel-like story mode and the addition of the New Japan Pro Wrestling roster, Spike Chunsoft's wrestling game is a must play for hardcore wrestling fans.

8 / 10 - WWE 2K19
Oct 12, 2018

Even though WWE 2K19 doesn't offer the graphical overhaul the franchise so desperatly deserves, it takes quite a few steps in the right direction. Its new modes are fun, the Showcase mode makes a triumphant return and its new features are well thought out. WWE 2K19 clearly gives WWE fans something to have a good time with.

Recreating Resident Evil 2 20 years later was no easy task but Capcom pulled it off. Resident Evil 2 was handled with love and care and it shows. 2019's Resident Evil 2 is a wonderful Survival Horror that is both terrifying and fun to play. Fans old and new will have a great time with the game. Our only, and minor, complaint is that we wish the remake added more new story content to the original storyline. But other than that, Capcom did the original game justice.

8 / 10 - Gears 5
Sep 4, 2019

Gears 5 is both a very generous and welcoming game. Building on what made the Gears franchise a power house, The Coalition changed the campaign's structure, added useful features to Horde mode, created a fun new coop mode and made the game more accessible for people with disabilities and new players. And it doesn't hurt that the game is really pretty (especially on the Xbox One X) Gears 5 is only being dragged down a bit by a couple technical issues that shouldn't be seen in AAA first party games.

Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot is the best way to play through the entirety of DBZ's story. No other Dragon Ball game even comes close when it comes to immersion. While imperfect (the frequent and long loading screens are a pain for example), the game is a must have for any fan who has ever dreamed of living in the Dragon World.

Puyo Puyo Tetris 2 takes the great concept seen in the first game and makes it even better with the addition of the "Skill Battle" mode which adds a touch of RPG to the gameplay. Gamers who can do without this new mode can keep playing the first Puyo Puyo Tetris. People who enjoy Puzzle Games and didn't play the first game shouldn't sleep on Puyo Puyo Tetris 2.
