9.6 / 10.0 - LittleBigPlanet 3

There are some slight issues, for instance the usually slick controls start to falter when R1 is used for climbing, or grappling - but also shooting when holding a weapon. Or perhaps you could question some of the loading times, especially when visiting Zom Zom's store to purchase costumes. But these are minor gripes that don't even come close to ruining one of the best platformers money can buy.

Yes, Skylanders will make your wallet cry out for mercy, and parents the world over are probably dreading their kids' Christmas Wish Lists this year. But their latest offering, Trap Team, is more than just a money grab. It's one of the most polished, expansive (expensive?) platformers available and is sure to entertain a wide audience, both young and old if you have the cheddar to keep up.

8.8 / 10.0 - FIFA 15
Sep 28, 2014

For real FIFA fans, you'll want this latest update not just for all of the new content, but also for the finer adjustments and improved goalkeeper AI. For more casual fans however, there might not be enough glaringly obvious updates from last year's edition to do a Mexican wave for.

With video games being blamed for stunting imaginations in young minds, it's refreshing to see a game that promotes a creative spark. Granted, it's easy to write this game off when confronted by retail stands filled with brightly coloured, individually priced figurines, power discs and more. But younger players will definitely get a blast out of this.

8.2 / 10.0 - Metro Redux
Sep 14, 2014

For console owners, Metro Redux is a chance to experience a top-quality, story-heavy, immersive shooter with the kind of visuals that high-end PC users have had the privilege of playing. It's also great value for money when you consider the two full-story campaigns and additional DLC content included within.

[T]hose who got their fill with Deslin's earlier adventures, you probably won't find much new on offer here - apart from an interesting new character to get to know.

6.9 / 10.0 - CounterSpy

The crisp visuals render beautifully on the smaller [VITA] screen and the slick, fairly basic controls are well polished. However it is harder to recommend on the bigger sibling consoles due to short depth of gameplay and irritating AI.

What was one of the best games for the PlayStation 3 is now one of the best games you can buy for the PlayStation 4. You owe it to yourself to experience this masterpiece first hand.

6.7 / 10.0 - EA Sports UFC
Jun 29, 2014

Overall, it's a tepid entrance into the ring for EA Sports and their new UFC title. The game looks, and even sounds like the real thing, but a slightly awkward grappling engine and a lacklustre approach to the energy and thrill of an actual fight is disappointing. Let's just hope that the franchise builds on this foundation for 2015, because there is technical promise here.

8.4 / 10.0 - Watch Dogs
Jun 3, 2014

It's probably one of 2014's most hyped games, and it delivers on some levels. It is just let-down by the fact that Watch Dogs promised so much two years ago when it was revealed.

If you enjoyed the movie, you will thoroughly like this game. You will see a number of cut-scenes again, all of which are taken directly from the film, but you'll relish at the opportunity to explore the worlds and re-live the characters (and jokes) all over again. As always in a LEGO game, there are bucket loads of brick-related extras to explore and unlock, including a massive cast of characters, many of whom I never even saw in the movie. The gameplay formula hasn't been changed from previous LEGO titles, and The LEGO Movie Videogame offers fun two-player madness with an energetic and creative vibe for all ages.

7 / 10.0 - LEGO The Hobbit
Apr 16, 2014

Travellers Tales have created another sterling example of how to make a family-friendly platformer. There are challenges and puzzles that will test older gamers, and plenty of action for casual and younger audiences. While some of the maps aren't very well planned out, often leading to random running around until you see the way forward, LEGO The Hobbit is still accessible and fun. However for those who already own LEGO Marvel Super Heroes, or the recently released LEGO The Movie - there is nothing special on offer here, except perhaps for die-hard fans of the Hobbit or the Lord of the Rings.

Max: The Curse of Brotherhood offers a decent amount of entertainment for the price-tag and could appeal to fans of games like Limbo (including the similar, dark, horror-like themes.) It will take casual players around seven hours to complete, but there is little reason to come back to the game after the climactic finish, which makes this title difficult to recommend to everyone.

4.4 / 10.0 - LocoCycle
Dec 29, 2013

I reviewed this on the Xbox One and, in hindsight, LocoCycle would probably be a better Xbox 360 title. It certainly doesn't show off any next-gen prowess, so don't buy this game to show off your new hardware.

9.1 / 10.0 - FIFA 14
Dec 5, 2013

Fundamentally there are improvements, but the game doesn't feel completely balanced as a whole and the pace of matches is sometimes uneven. It happens often between console generations and while FIFA 14 on Xbox One is certainly no cheap port of the current-gen edition - I can't help but think that the next rendition will truly take the franchise to the next level.
