Chris White's Reviews

I write about video games for God is a Geek. I'm a pretty cool guy, just ask my mum.

It was almost inevitable that One Piece World Seeker would have some faults, but it's hard not to love the game regardless of them.

10 / 10.0 - Devil May Cry 5
Mar 6, 2019

Devil May Cry 5 is a stunning hack and slash game and never fails to amaze. Combat this good should be illegal.

6.5 / 10.0 - The Occupation
Mar 4, 2019

The Occupation is an inventive political thriller that does something new, but is let down by poor AI and some frustrating bugs.

ToeJam & Earl: Back in the Groove is a weird and wonderful world filled with colourful characters, but some of the movement feels archaic.

8 / 10.0 - Trials Rising
Feb 25, 2019

Trials Rising is a thrill ride of crazy tracks and various challenges ,pushing physics-based racing to its limits.

Whilst Far Cry New Dawn isn't a completely new experience, it does have a few features that give it new life, and despite the bugs and weak story, it was nice revisiting Hope County.

Broken Toys is a superbly written episode, with visuals being some of the best the series has ever seen.

7.5 / 10.0 - Kingdom Hearts III
Feb 4, 2019

The final game in the series goes out with more of a whimper than a bang, but there's still plenty of heart, and the combat never fails to entertain. There're some wonderful visuals and plenty of Disney surprises, and although the story is a mess when it strays into the series' lore, it's still fun.

A Fisherman's Tale has some fantastic puzzles and great level design, but the movement manages to ruin some of the puzzles.

Onimusha: Warlords is a worthy remaster, and even though it feels rather short, the combat and exploration of such a claustrophobic world reminds you just how good it is.

There's so much to love about Monster Boy and the Cursed Kingdom. From the beautiful visuals to the variety in combat and movement, there are so many reasons to give it a try.

8.5 / 10.0 - Borderlands 2 VR
Dec 18, 2018

Borderlands 2 was always a phenomenal game, but having the option to play through the entire VR game with plenty of customisation to help with motion sickness helps out a lot.

7 / 10.0 - Arca's Path
Dec 5, 2018

Arca's Path is a simple game with some nice challenges and some nice level designs, and never becomes too difficult to allow all ages a chance to enjoy.

7 / 10.0 - Déraciné
Nov 22, 2018

FromSoft's first VR game isn't an instant classic, but there's a lot here to give fans of the developers a look into where their talents can take them in the realms of virtual reality.

Nov 20, 2018

Whilst more Spider-Man is never a bad thing, the DLC doesn't last that long, and there's nothing really new to keep you entertained outside the story.

Nov 13, 2018

This may not be the brand new adventure we’re all waiting for, but it’s a nice stopgap for those wanting to scratch that itch.

Nov 12, 2018

It's great to see Spyro back in the picture, and with the remasters it doesn't look out of place in today's day and age. It's a joy to play, but the charging and camera angles let it down somewhat.

9 / 10.0 - Tetris Effect
Nov 9, 2018

Tetris Effect is a wonderful take on a game that has been around for as long as I have. For a series that’s 34-years old, it’s amazing to see how it can still find a way to reinvent itself whilst still remaining true to its roots. The majestic visuals and emotive soundtrack allows you to get swept away in its beauty, freeing yourself of worry and allowing you to enjoy such a pure and addictive game.

Despite the action on the court being fun, it's the looming frustrations of microtransactions that hinder player development and the overall appeal of the game.

There was never any doubt that Red Dead Redemption 2 was going to be good, but this is something special. A masterpiece that many will be talking about for decades to come.
