Adam Beck's Reviews
As Disgaea: Hour of Darkness was the first game I ever reviewed nearly two decades ago, I have had a long and beloved history with Nippon Ichi's franchise, so it breaks my heart to play Disgaea 6: Defiance of Destiny. The story is bland with few jokes that actually hit, and the cast of characters do not help the cause with uninspired backstories and personalities.
Shin Megami Tensei III Nocturne HD Remaster is an apocalyptic blast from the past that goes beyond what we could have hoped for in celebration of the cult classic.
Mass Effect Legendary Edition brings back one of the best sci-fi trilogies in the best way possible.
Many will continue to compare Nioh to the Dark Souls franchise because of its difficulty and trial-and-error gameplay, but it has presented itself as something unique.
In the current trilogy, Hitman 3 would be considered the weaker of the three.
It has been almost two years since its initial release and yet Devil May Cry 5 remains on the pedestal as one of the best character action games available.
Demon's Souls is not only the best PlayStation 5 game, it's the next-generation experience you were hoping for.
Astro's Playroom is an irresistible delight.
EA Sports UFC 4 is a fun albeit bland fighting game.
Ghost of Tsushima is one of the few games this generation that left a momentous impression on me.
Persona 4 Golden is slowly starting to show its age in the gameplay department, but that doesn't detract it from being one of the best RPG experiences you'll find.
Persona 5 Royale is a marvelous victory lap.
Nioh 2 is a great game that's obscured beneath a mountain of frustration.
Star Ocean First Departure R is the best Star Ocean game in a long time.
Death Stranding is a cerebral experience that isn't fun.
I'm of two minds when it comes to Code Vein. On one hand, it's a serviceable and surprisingly delightful Souls-like game that comes with its own flair.
The Coalition is clearly making substantial strides to evolve Gears into a bigger and better shooter, but the fifth installment is only half a step in the right direction.
Oninaki is a nostalgic throwback to old-school action RPGs such as Secret of Mana and Brave Fencer Musashi that doesn't quite stick the landing.
Marvel Ultimate Alliance 3 is an acceptable, albeit dull game that's only held together by the diverse Marvel universe.
Shadowbringers solidifies Final Fantasy XIV as the best MMO on the market.
